Purpose of the Role

Provide leadership and management within the Safeguarding Team, ensuring statutory compliance, high-quality social work practice, and effective support for children, young people, and families. Oversee a team of social workers and practitioners, promoting professional development, performance management, and improved safeguarding outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Line manage a team of social workers and practitioners, providing supervision, support, and performance management.

Promote reflective practice and professional development within the team.

Ensure effective workforce planning, resource allocation, and caseload management.

Oversee complex safeguarding cases, providing guidance and decision-making support.

Ensure statutory timescales are met for assessments, interventions, and reviews.

Maintain high standards of social work practice in line with legislation and local policies.

Lead on safeguarding concerns, ensuring prompt and appropriate interventions.

Support child protection conferences, strategy meetings, and other multi-agency safeguarding forums.

Monitor risk and provide professional advice to mitigate harm to children and young people.

Monitor, evaluate, and report on team performance, service outcomes, and statutory compliance.

Implement audits, case reviews, and improvement plans as needed.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with schools, health services, police, voluntary organisations, and other stakeholders.

Represent the team in senior management and partnership meetings.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

Degree in Social Work (or equivalent recognised qualification).

Registration with Social Work England.

Substantial post-qualification experience in children’s social care, including safeguarding and child protection.

Proven experience supervising and managing social work teams.

In-depth knowledge of the Children Act 1989 & 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and local safeguarding policies.

Experience leading complex cases, audits, and quality assurance activities.
