Position: Purchasing Manager (Supply Chain Manager) - Direct Hire

Location: Westminster, MD 21157

Shift: 1st

Salary: $85,000 / Annually

Full-Time - 8 hours Monday to Friday

Interview: In-Person

Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Purchasing Manager to oversee procurement processes and ensure the efficient acquisition of goods and services. The ideal candidate will possess strong negotiation skills, a solid understanding of inventory management, and experience with sourcing materials. This role is crucial in maintaining optimal inventory levels while ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality in our supply chain operations. The purchasing manager must have at least 10+ years’ experience in a production environment and hold a degree in Business Management.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Manage Senior Buyer
  • Negotiate pricing, process purchase orders and track delivery
  • Attend meetings as required. Management, daily stand-up, supplier status, etc.
  • Work cross-functionally with sales, accounting and Program Managers to support production
  • Resolve discrepancies with suppliers regarding certs, pricing, etc.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs and enhance overall purchasing process
  • Identify and onboard new suppliers, manage NDAs, set up new vendors in QAD.
  • Manage supplier performance to meet schedules
  • Create Small Business Plans for jobs over $750,000
  • Maintain Small Business Spreadsheets monthly
  • Report Small Business Figures to government every 6 months and create year-end report
  • Contact supplier regarding non-conformances and request RMA.
  • Create and send reports to upper management regarding monthly activities and cost savings
  • Visit suppliers when necessary to resolve quality issues, start new projects, etc.
  • Show initiative to take on more responsibilities
  • Fill in for Senior Buyer while they are on PTO
  • Plan, quote, write requisitions and order parts for Production jobs
  • Request certs, FAI and other documents from suppliers
  • Take actions based on ECOs.
  • Manager GIDEP alerts when required
  • Occasionally manage material outside of the ERP system
  • Responsible for supporting and ensuring compliance to AS9100 Quality Management Systems

Job Qualifications include:

  • BS degree in Business Management or similar
  • Ability to work and succeed in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while demonstrating superior communication, team building and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team
  • Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment
  • Knowledge/understanding of Government contractor purchasing requirements, Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), and local laws, and the ability to apply them in procurement of commodities and services
  • Knowledge of and experience with AS9100 Quality Management Systems
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • MRP/ERP experience required, knowledge of QAD helpful
  • Must have good attendance
  • 10-15 years’ experience purchasing in a production environment
  • Must be a good negotiator
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing is helpful; Lean / 6 Sigma Green Belt or higher a plus
  • Willing to travel domestically and occasionally internationally
  • Ability to work in the office on all days assigned – This is NOT a remote position
