Job summary

A well-established manufacturing business in Carlisle is looking for a Mechanical Engineer. The ideal candidate will handle maintenance and improvements of production machinery, ensuring operational efficiency and safety. Responsibilities include diagnosing faults, performing repairs, and collaborating with teams to enhance production performance. Candidates must have a Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering and experience in manufacturing environments. A full UK driving licence is preferred.

Overview

We are supporting a well-established manufacturing business to recruit a Mechanical Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and motivated individual to take on a hands-on role in maintaining and improving production machinery, ensuring efficiency, safety, and reliability. The role is diverse, with responsibilities split between the workshop and factory floor. It offers the chance to work both independently and as part of a wider team, giving you the scope to bring your own initiative and flair to improve standards, safety, and production performance.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on production machinery
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults to reduce downtime
  • Undertake installation work and machinery upgrades
  • Support breakdown repairs across a range of equipment
  • Work to preventative maintenance schedules and processes
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of equipment and processes
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work completed
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the maintenance and production teams to deliver safe and efficient operations
Qualifications
  • Qualified to O.N.C Level 3 or City & Guilds equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience working within a manufacturing or production environment
  • Strong skills in mechanical fault finding, installation work, and preventative maintenance
  • Proven experience in breakdown repairs
  • A proactive team player with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Flexible, safety-conscious, and able to work under pressure
  • Willingness to learn, with training provided on specific machinery
  • Full UK driving licence preferred
