Job summary

A specialist education provider is seeking a Functional Skills Tutor to work in Derby. The role involves teaching Basic Skills in English and Maths to pupils with additional needs in a supportive SEND provision. The ideal candidate should have experience working in a school setting and with SEND pupils, while QTS or QTLS is preferred. Job description

TeacherActive are looking for a Functional Skills Tutor to work in a specialist alternative provision in Derby.

Experience working in a school setting and experience with SEND pupils is essential.

QTS or QTLS is preferred but not essential as attitude, personality are absolutely key.

  • Have an interest in supporting young people with a variety of additional needs
  • Have experience supporting children with additional needs (desirable not essential)
  • Be a part of the school team taking part in the wider school environment
  • Have an understanding of behavioural management
Basic Role Description
  • Teaching Basic Skills in an SEND provision to pupils of varying abilities
  • Supporting children during lessons/school activities
  • Supporting staff/children during lunch and break times
  • Managing pupils personalised learning based on their individual need.
  • Delivering 1:1 or small group activities
  • Collecting evidence of children's work to support their assessment
  • Providing physical management and care of pupils

The setting supports young people in KS3 & 4 who have been permanently excluded or are on the verge of permanent exclusion from mainstream schools. The aim is to either re‑integrate these young people back into mainstream schools/post‑16 education/apprenticeships or training through personalised education plans.
