Job description
Overview

Children's Hospice Nurse Grade 4 (Equiv. to Band 6). You’ll be an experienced Band 5 nurse with palliative care experience or a Band 6 (Equivalent) nurse already working in palliative care, with at least one year experience caring for children with complex care needs. You’ll have experience managing a nursing team or supporting students, junior staff nurses or support workers. You’ll be able to work collaboratively, lead a multi-skilled team, or demonstrate leadership with support from a lead nurse. You’ll share our core values of kindness, excellence and courage and support the mission to be there for children and families.

Main duties of the job

We’re expanding our team and are looking for more Nurses to join Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice. You’ll be joining an award-winning, certified Outstanding team, who empower children and families to experience as much life as possible.

As a member of the Noah’s Ark Nurse and Specialist Care team, you’ll place the experience of children and families at the heart of all you do. You’ll understand each child’s care needs and what’s important to them, treating each child as an individual. You’ll focus on what children can do and support them to experience things they may not have thought possible.

Care may be provided at our state-of-the-art building, The Ark, or out in the community, enabling parents and carers to take time for themselves. The hours of care you’ll provide will make a huge difference and create choice for families.

You’ll join our experienced nursing team to provide a 24/7 on-call symptom assessment/management service for babies, children and young people at The Ark and in the community.

Your commitment to children and families will extend to end-of-life care. You’ll be a guiding, reassuring presence for families, elevating anxiety and working with other healthcare professionals to maximise comfort. You’ll deliver essential symptom management and support the choice of preferred place of care and death.

During this time, you’ll treat each child and family as an individual, taking time to understand what is important to them and helping to create memories for as good a death as possible.

You’ll be a natural and experienced leader, delivering high-quality and effective training to other team members and family members. You’ll provide direct line management support to Band 5 equivalent Nurses and Band 3 & 4 equivalent Specialist Carers.

About us

We exist to help babies, children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, and their families, make the most of every day. Our mission is to enable those we support to enjoy life as children, not patients; as families, not just as carers. We listen to families and tailor our services to each individual from diagnosis onward.

Our help is available wherever needed. Our expert staff and trained volunteers can provide support in a family’s home, in the community, or at our Ark building in Barnet. We collaborate with key NHS Trusts and other care providers to deliver the best support to children and families.

Job responsibilities

At Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice we need paediatric nurses to help babies, children and young people who are seriously unwell make the most of every day. You’ll be based in The Ark – a new building in a north London nature reserve, a place of laughter, play and real connection with a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.

With talented colleagues, we’re changing the landscape for paediatric palliative care in north and central London, as well as Herts Valley. As part of our Specialist Care Team, you will care for children staying with us at The Ark and those visiting for day care. Providing families with choice is central to Noah’s Ark’s care model, so you will also support children in their family homes and in community settings.

ABOUT YOU

You will be either an experienced Band 5 paediatric nurse wanting to take a step upwards, or an experienced Band 6 nurse seeking to apply your skills in the hospice sector. You will have excellent clinical and communication skills, be creative and want to make a positive difference to the charity.

Kindly see attached job description for more information about this opportunity.

In addition, an enhanced DBS disclosure with Child Barring will be required for this post. Our recruitment checks, induction, ongoing support and supervision reflect our commitment to safeguarding the families we support.
