Job Summary

This vacancy is being advertised by One Wight Health - GP Federation on behalf on South Wight Medical Practice.

Please note, applicants will be contacted following submission of application, and this position will be closed as soon as a suitable candidate has been identified.

We're looking for a salaried GP to join our dispensing practice in the beautiful surroundings of the Isle of Wight for 6 sessions per week.

Based in an idyllic rural setting, South Wight Medical Practice is based in the heart of the community, offering traditional patient focused GP-led care. We operate from three practice bases in the scenic villages of Brighstone, Godshill and Niton.

Main duties of the job

As part of our team, you will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards and quality of care for all registered and temporary patients.

The post-holder will undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients, signing prescriptions, dealing with queries, paperwork, and correspondence in a timely fashion

Making professional, autonomous decisions, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

Developing care plans for health

Providing counselling and health education

Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards

Collecting data for audit purposes

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)

Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

About Us

South Wight Medical Practice is a unique and profitable practice being the only dispensing practice on the Isle of Wight. We are also a teaching practice with a strong focus on personal development.

Our friendly, efficient and supportive team comprises three GP Partners, a salaried GP, ANP, Clinical Pharmacist, Wellbeing Coach and Social Prescriber.

We work in close partnership with other services in the local community and with other practices in our Primary Care Network to serve our population of around 6,000 people.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking, and signing prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
  • Providing counselling and health education

  • Contribute to the implementation of services applying practice policies, standards, and guidance, discussing with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect your own work and supporting the Practices achievement of QOF requirements by taking appropriate actions as highlighted and requested.
  • Compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g., prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, safeguarding
  • The post-holder will be expected to have a commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
  • Contribute to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation
  • Contribute to the development of computer-based patient records

The post-holder will also support the equality, diversity and rights of patients, carers and colleagues and respect the strict confidentiality of information provided to them by patients, colleagues, and other professionals.
