We are seeking a new Board member with HR experience, skills and expertise

Scottish Families supports anyone who is concerned about someone else’s alcohol or drug use. We were established in2003 by families themselves, who came together to support each other and to campaign for recognition. Our fiveOutcomes are that Families are Supported, Included, Heard, Connected, and that Families Create Change.

We are a national charity based in Glasgow but working right across Scotland. We provide a range of national andlocal services, including a national helpline, one to one support, bereavement counselling and local familysupport services. We also deliver a national workforce development programme; Connecting Families; My Family, MyRights; communications; fundraising; and policy/ campaigning work, as well as our Routes young personsprogramme, and Grow Your Own Routes national development programme.

We are Scotland’s leading charity supporting families affected by substance use, and are recognised by the ScottishGovernment as one of their Key Third Sector Partners in the field of alcohol and drugs. We are funded through acombination of Government grants, commissioned services, charitable trusts and fundraising.

We are seeking a Board member with Human Resources (HR) experience, skills and expertise. Note that this roledoes not involve providing formal HR advice to the charity.

Board members serve an initial three-year term, which can be extended for a further three years.

You should be available to attend quarterly meetings, which are held in person at our national office in Glasgow citycentre (with the option of joining online via MS Teams). Meetings are held on Saturday mornings and the scheduleis set well in advance.

The Scotland Committee

The Scotland Committee is a sub-committee of the Board of Trustees which has responsibility for the organisationacross UK & Ireland. The Committee has recently completed a governance review and now has an extended remit.Members of the Scotland Committee play a unique role in delivering our mission. They are collectivelyresponsible for ensuring that Samaritans Scotland is effectively governed and delivers its strategy in Scotland,recognising the context in which it operates and realising the opportunities offered.

What we’re looking for

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop and oversee the strategic priorities for Samaritans Scotland and ensure weare achieving impact through our public policy, research, influencing, brand and profile building work inScotland.

We are looking skilled and experienced people with strategic vision and commitment to deliver our vision. You willhave a curious mind, the ability to challenge and bring fresh ideas.

We are looking for candidates with varied expertise in areas such as research, policy and influencing, andcommunications.

Committee members are voluntary roles and are usually appointed for a period of three years, with the possibility ofa second three-year term.

The Committee meets four times per year with meetings lasting around two hours. Meetings are normally held onlinewith the expectation of one in-person meeting a year.

The Commission protects and promotes the human rights of people with mental illness, learning disabilities, dementiaand related conditions.

We have a varied and interesting role as a Medical Officer for the right candidate to join our team on a Permanentbasis.

The Medical Officer will be part of a multi-disciplinary area team and report to a Senior Manager. They will beprofessionally accountable to the Executive Director (Medical) for their specialty.

The post-holder must be a fully registered medical practitioner and hold the MRCPsych or equivalent or be eligiblefor accreditation as an AMP. They must have experience of providing medical psychiatric care and working in amultidisciplinary team across a range of psychiatric sub-specialities.

The role also requires excellent IT, written and verbal skills.

You must have an excellent understanding of the mental health and learning disability agenda in Scotland and thecapacity to influence and negotiate with high-level colleagues in the health, social care and voluntary sectors.They must also be able to communicate effectively and empathically with mental health and learning disabilityservice users, carers and advocates

Also, you must have experience in the application of, and excellent understanding of, mental health and incapacitylegislation in Scotland. Experience of working with Mental Health Officers and knowledge of their role isrequired.

Hearing Voices Network Dundee (SCIO) provides a haven for those in the community who suffer from mental healthissues, specifically those who hear voices or experience other visual or sensory hallucinations. The HaVeN is adrop-in centre as well as a community café which is based in the Hilltown area of the city, offering one to onesupport and a variety of groups which are run and supported by volunteers.

What we do:

The Hearing Voices Network Dundee seeks to inspire hope and promote empowerment for Voice-Hearers, their friends, andfamilies. We have a drop-in service which is open to all. No referral is needed to access the services andsupport that we provide.

We offer support, advice, volunteering opportunities, befriending, peer2peer, training, group activities and have acommunity café on site. We work closely with other organisations in our community to ensure that we remain up todate and are able provide creative support solutions to our service users and the community around us.

This is a voluntary role; however reasonable expenses will be paid.

We ask that you can attend our board meetings. The Board of trustees currently meet up to eight times per year. Ourmeetings are predominately virtual, however two meetings per year in person.
