Overview
You\u2019ll oversee the work of offenders to prepare and cook quality, nutritional meals for the entire prison. You\u2019ll support offenders to learn new skills and work towards qualifications to increase employment chances and reduce reoffending after leaving prison.
Hours
You will work a 37-hour week, Monday to Friday, core day hours. This is a part-time role of 18.5 hours per week with pro rata salary.
Recruitment process
- You will need to provide an anonymised CV and answer questions outlining your past experience.
- You will also need to answer specific behavioural questions.
- Pre-employment checks will be undertaken if your application is successful. This will include His Majesty\u2019s Prison and Probation Service Enhanced Level 2 vetting and, due to security status, Counter-Terrorism Check (CTC) vetting is also required.
- Proof of UK residency for the last 3 years is needed to complete the CTC vetting process. Residency refers to the period immediately before application. If you have been abroad for a significant period but maintained UK residency, you may still be considered.
Residency examples (not exhaustive)
- Spent a significant period overseas without returning to the UK, but intend to return in the future
- Taken a gap year before or after university
- Traveled for a year
- Spent time overseas visiting family
Note: Candidates must provide correct and up-to-date documentation when requested during the application process.
Qualifications
- Level 2 certificate in food production within hospitality and catering or equivalent
- Food hygiene certificate at Level 2
- Familiar with current health, safety and hygiene regulations for working in a kitchen
- Able to demonstrate competency within an industrial kitchen environment
- Able to speak with confidence in English
- Refresher training in food safety (HACCP) should be completed at three-year intervals

Salary details
- Salary details for a full-time 37-hour week: minimum £28,122; maximum £29,611
- For this role, salary is pro rata, reflecting 18.5 hours per week
