Leading the charge in Barcelona’s latest cocktail revolution, Slow Cocktails & Boîte is part of a new generation of bars that are sexing up the mixed drink and combining classic elegance with modern trends.
Newly promoted head bartender Fran Mekk – a rising star and enfant terrible amongst Barcelona’s mixologists – is the curator of Slow’s ‘Greatest Hits’, a menu of deliciously creative concoctions that are sure to beguile any serious imbiber. Highlights include the Spiced Margarita, made from rested tequila with a hint of lime and chilli; La Font Magica – a potent mix of amaretto and absinth that filters down from decanter to glass (a homage to both Barcelona’s Magic Fountain and a long tradition of drinking absinth); and the Costa Brava, a whimsical creation of gin, bitters, herbs, and fruits served in a conical sea shell.
With its low lights, vintage decor, and first-class service, Slow’s relaxed bar area evokes the perfect atmosphere for enjoying any of the above in good company.
Upstairs, however, you’ll find a different vibe. Slow is the only dedicated cocktail bar in Barcelona to combine a lounge area with a nightclub that stages live music and DJs. An esoteric selection of bands plays every Friday and Saturday at 21:30, while later at night, you can dance to pop, indie, electro, and R&B played on their Adagio Pro and Martin Audio soundsystem, as well as revel in a spectacular LED light show.
Also upstairs, you’ll find the secluded Candy Box room, where decadent murals and crimson horse leather grace the walls, and a VIP atmosphere prevails: an excellent space for private events if you’re coming to Barcelona for a special occasion.
