Senior Java Backend Developer

Are you passionate about building scalable backend systems and leading innovation in enterprise applications?

We are seeking a Senior Java Developer to design and build robust backend services that power modern Angular-based applications. This role involves developing scalable, secure, and high-performance APIs and services, collaborating closely with frontend teams, and ensuring seamless integration across the stack. You will also contribute to architectural decisions, mentor team members, and drive best practices in backend development, including leveraging AI-driven tools and techniques to improve efficiency and quality.

About the Role

In this opportunity as a Senior Java Backend Developer, you will:

  • Design and implement backend services and APIs to support Angular applications.
  • Develop and refactor existing products, providing enhancements and resolving defects.
  • Perform unit, integration, and performance testing as part of the development cycle.
  • Guide the team in adopting and utilizing AI-powered tools for:
    • Code generation and refactoring to accelerate development.
    • Automated testing and defect prediction using AI-based frameworks.
    • Performance tuning and optimization through AI-driven analysis.
About You

You’re a fit for the role if you have the following required qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in Java backend development for enterprise or SaaS applications and Experience with agile/iterative development methodologies.
  • Strong expertise in Java, J2EE, and frameworks such as Spring and Hibernate with Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, SOAP, and service-oriented architectures (SOA).
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases; exposure to NoSQL is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and build tools (e.g., Gradle, Maven).
  • Familiarity with AWS infrastructure and cloud-based deployments.
  • Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Analysis, Design, and Implementation.

Additional preferred qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of design patterns and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Experience with open-source frameworks and modern development tools.
  • Exposure to microservices architecture and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with performance optimization techniques for backend systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in using AI tools or frameworks to improve backend workflows.

For Ontario, Canada, the base compensation range for this role is $90,000 CAD - $140,000 CAD. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
