Assistant Vice President - Financial Lines Claims

AIG Insurance Company of Canada is looking for a seasoned lawyer or claims manager with 8+ years of Financial Lines experience to take on management responsibilities as the Assistant Vice President of our Financial Lines Claims team.

The AVP will help lead a team of lawyers and insurance claim professionals in handling a wide range of specialty insurance claims with varying degrees of complexity. Claim types include : directors & officers liability (D&O), professional liability / errors & omissions (E&O), financial institution liability, employment practices liability (EPL), fidelity / crime, representations & warranties coverage, and cybersecurity.

The AVP will be responsible for driving consistent operational excellence across the team, both in terms of delivering optimal outcomes and ensuring exceptional customer service for AIG’s clients. The AVP will oversee the professional development of our team, provide technical oversight of coverage evaluations, and ensure that AIG’s best claims handling practices are followed. The AVP will also work collaboratively with AIG’s external business partners and represent AIG as a market leader.

The role requires an understanding of complex commercial litigation, insurance coverage and policy wording; familiarity with the Financial Lines insurance market; strong communication and interpersonal skills; a talent for creative problem-solving and strategic decision-making; and the ability to manage a team of high performing claim specialists.

The role is based in Toronto and reports to, and works closely with, the VP Head of Financial Lines Claims.

What we’re looking for :

  • Law degree and 8+ years of commercial litigation experience and / or Financial Lines insurance claims experience, and preferably management experience.
  • Collaborative and collegial leader who can bring out the best in others while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Creative problem solver who is detail-oriented and decisive.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong time management skills with an ability to prioritize and meet all deadlines.
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated success in building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Big picture thinker who can proactively identify trends that would assist underwriters and senior management in evaluating accounts and developing policy language.
  • Technically proficient, precise, and a quick learner.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
