Are you ready to launch your geophysics career and make an impact in the energy sector? Cenovus is looking for a curious, engaged, and driven Geophysicist-in-Training to join our New Grad Program. This is your opportunity to take on real energy challenges, grow your skills, and help shape the future of our industry.
Our Program consists of three consecutive 12-month rotational assignments that span Cenovus’s varied business areas. Upon completion of the three-year program, you will be matched to a permanent rolewithin the organization. This role will be based on business need and relocation may be required.
You will join a dynamic team that values continuous learning, collaboration, and innovation. Over the course of the three-year program, you’ll be paired with multiple experienced geophysicists who will mentor you through each rotation and support your technical and professional growth. Each rotation offers the opportunity to explore different areas of development, including:
• Advanced Geophysical Analysis: Unravel complex stratigraphy and lithology relationships using an array of software and workflows, including amplitude analysis, 3D visualization, seismic attributes, seismic inversion, rock property prediction, and time-lapse seismic analysis.
• Field Experience: Combine theory with practical, hands-on experience in acquiring fit-for-purpose seismic datasets.
• Reservoir Management: Utilize 3D seismic data to accurately delineate and optimize wells in a variety of reservoir types, from tight, gas-bearing to the oilsands.
• Multiple Asset Exposure: Gain potential experience in SAGD oilsands, heavy oil, unconventional, and offshore.

What you’ll do
Responsibilities may include:
Interpret seismic data to build structure, amplitude, thickness, and attribute maps
Generate and interpret pre-stack or post-stack inversion data
Depth conversion of seismic volumes and interpreted surfaces
Establish geophysical databases (horizons, LAS, seismic volumes, etc) and maintain integrity/accuracy of data
Use geophysical software (SeisWare, Petrel, Hampson Russell, RokDoc, etc.) to interpret and incorporate results
Work along side Geologists and Engineers to evaluate and present business opportunities
Work alongside Acquisition team to design and acquire fit-for-purpose seismic surveys
Communicate geophysical findings to the broader geoscience team
Who you are
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
Legally authorized to work in Canada
Available to begin work June 2026
Must have an undergraduate or graduate Geophysics-related degree obtained by May 31, 2026, and completed within the last 2 years (2024, 2025 or by May 31, 2026)
We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement
Exposure to software such as SeisWare, Petrel, Hampson Russell and RokDoc would be considered an asset
Must be eligible to register for your professional Geoscientist-in-Training designation
