• Valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement, and/or ability to become Career and Technical Education (CTE) Certified in Sign Language Interpreting by demonstrating a minimum of three years of gainful employment (non-teaching) in a variety of ASL-related assignments
• Ability to provide first year and advanced levels of American Sign Language instruction
• Knowledge and understanding of the principles and methods of effective instruction and understanding of state content standards as defined by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Schools
• Possession of or ability to earn and maintain a First Aid/CPR Card
• Willingness to actively develop and maintain business partnerships
• Must be able to infuse contextual learning opportunities into subject area
• Ability to teach a variety of developmental levels, grades 9-12
• Ability to work cooperatively with students and their parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse
• Ability to use technology as an effective communication, planning and instructional tool
• Willingness to participate in staff development courses aligned with the school and district initiatives

• Must adhere to the Career Education and Technical program standards set by the Superintendent of Public Instruction for Career and Technical Education in Washington State. Standards include:
  • Provide student leadership opportunities for further growth and professional development
  • Lead and/or participate in CTE advisory committee meetings
  • Attend state-sponsored, required workshops and conferences
  • Articulate classes with post-secondary education
  • Develop and maintain business partnerships
  • Design learning experiences and assessments that allow students to demonstrate learning
• Communicates effectively with students and builds a strong language program
• Works with knowledge of and an on-going exposure with the deaf community, its culture, and its life experiences
• Learn and infuse emerging technologies into teaching, learning, and assessment
• Maintain effective student management in a non-coercive, positive environment
• Handles discipline in a positive manner with effective classroom management skills
• Works and plans cooperatively with other teachers, administrators, counselors and community members
• Provides an instructional program for students geared to meet their individual needs at their instructional level
• Applies teaching strategies that include the direct, cooperative and individual models
• Actively engage students in using technology in individual and collaborative learning activities
• Works in a flexible and cooperative manner
• Treats co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times
• Serves as a positive role model for students, and practices the behaviors that are expected of our students
• Maintains regular and punctual attendance and hours of operation as set by the assigned building/location and the Comprehensive Professional Agreement to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements

• Salary range: $64,498 - $121,573 (includes Base & TRI enrichment; commensurate upon FTE, degree, credits and experience). Salary schedules can be accessed here.
• Additional Compensation: Certificated positions may have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary range such as, but not limited to TRI professional learning, extended year days, extra appendix E supplemental days and professional development reimbursement. • Retirement: Employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Eligibility is based on FTE. Detailed information can be found here.
• Time Off: Includes paid time off, sick, personal, religious, military and bereavement leave.
  • Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE).
