Does the opportunity to travel and work on projects outside in the field motivate you? If you answered yes to these questions – you have come to the right place!

No experience is necessary! As our Survey Assistant Student, you are passionate about spending time outside in the field. We are looking for a student who is excited about the opportunity to learn alongside experienced mentors. Ideally, you are highly collaborative, with strong communication skills and an infectious positivity that positively affects team members around you.

This is a temporary, full time student position starting in either January or May 2024. Please let us know in your questionnaire which GeoVerra region(s) (BC, AB, SK, MB, and/or ON) you are open to working from! We’ll be real with you—our ideal scenario is when we have students that come back term after term, eventually landing a full-time role after they graduate!

What you will do:
  • Assist in the field on survey projects.
  • Hold measuring rods or targets.
  • Set up and tear down survey equipment.
  • Carry survey equipment and stakes over long distances.
  • Help locate and mark property boundaries and other survey points.
  • Maintain, clean, monitor and report the condition of equipment and vehicles.
  • Prepare files, maps and data for survey projects.
  • Assist with records management, data loading and quality assurance.
  • Review historical surveying records and archive them according to classification standards.
  • Adhere to the safety requirements of the client, OH&S and the GeoVerra Safety program.
  • Participate in Emergency Response Planning, Hazard Assessment, Job Safety Analysis development, daily tailgate meetings and comply with all safety activities identified.
  • Assist with the use of GNSS receivers for RTK, RTN static measurements and total stations.
What you will bring:
  • Currently enrolled in a degree/diploma program related to Geomatics, Surveying, Geography or Civil Engineering.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly for the client, project, and GeoVerra requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and work as part of a team.
  • An understanding of survey methodologies is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience working in the great outdoors is considered an asset.
  • A valid non-restricted driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace.
  • Clear criminal background check.
Job conditions:
  • Out-of-town work (possible shift work) and frequent travel required.
  • Ability to carry, lift and push up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
What we offer:
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Tools and services to support your mental wellness.
  • Work-life balance.
  • Growth and advancement opportunities.
  • Continuing education and professional development.
  • Use of leading-edge technology and equipment.
