Description:

The Institute of Communication, Culture, Information and Technology (ICCIT) at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Organizational Studies. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in a field such as organizational communication, business administration, organization studies, organizational behaviour, or related disciplines, with a clearly demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. Candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research, and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. We are interested in scholars who engage in research on organizational design in platform-oriented organizations, leadership and strategic change, ethical and values-centered management, or decision-making in digitally driven environments. We are particularly interested in scholars who embrace a technology-in-society approach to organization studies. We also welcome applicants with a focus on the relationships among digital media, culture, technology, and organizational processes, who examine how emerging technologies (AI for example) are created, interpreted, and deployed within organizational structures. We encourage applicants from a wide range of humanistic, social scientific and critical perspectives and methodologies including Indigenous ontologies, queer, feminist and Black technoscience. The successful candidate will support current course offerings by teaching core undergraduate classes in ICCIT’s Digital Enterprise Management (DEM) program. Core DEM courses include Organizational Studies I and Organizational Studies II as well as Enterprise Risk Management, Business Research Methods, E-Business Strategies, and Communicating in and Between Organizations. The successful candidate will be affiliated with the University of Toronto Mississauga and will have their graduate home at the Institute for Management and Innovation (IMI). Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals, the submitted research statement, books, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well as strong endorsements from referees. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below) submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. At UTM we are committed to fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion. With an enviably diverse student body, we especially welcome applications from candidates who identify as Indigenous, Black, or racially visible (persons of colour), and who have experience working with teaching or mentoring diverse groups or students. Candidates must demonstrate, in their application materials, an ability to foster diversity on campus and within the curriculum or discipline, and must show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial environment. Candidates must submit a statement describing their contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion, which might cover topics such as (but not limited to): teaching that incorporates a focus on underrepresented communities; efforts undertaken to develop inclusive pedagogies, collaboration, and engagement with underrepresented communities; and mentoring of students from underrepresented groups. If you have questions about this statement, please contact Professor Brett Caraway, Acting ICCIT Director at iccit.utm@utoronto.ca. ICCIT focuses on teaching and research excellence in its four undergraduate programs: Communication, Culture, Information and Technology, Digital Enterprise Management, Technology, Coding and Society and Professional Writing and Communication. The successful applicant will join a vibrant intellectual community of world-class scholars at Canada’s leading university. For information, please visit www.utm.utoronto.ca/iccit. All qualified candidates are invited to apply online by clicking the link below. Applicants must submit a cover letter; a current curriculum vitae; a research statement outlining current and future research interests; one recent publication; a diversity statement, a teaching dossier which includes a teaching statement, a list of courses taught, sample syllabi, and a course evaluation data summary; and an EDI statement (as outlined above). Applicants must provide the name and contact information of three references. The University of Toronto’s recruiting tool will automatically solicit and collect letters of reference from each referee within 48 hours after an application is submitted. Applicants remain responsible for ensuring that references submit letters by the closing date, September 30, 2025. Letters of recommendation (on letterhead, signed, dated and scanned) should be addressed to Professor Brett Caraway, Acting ICCIT Director. More details on the automatic reference letter collection, including timelines, are available in the candidate FAQ. Submission guidelines can be found at http://uoft.me/how-to-apply.
