Your Opportunity:
If you enjoy working as a front-line health worker in a Primary Health Care setting providing oral health services to a variety of identified populations within the Edmonton Zone region, then this position will be of interest to you. Emphasis will be placed on working with preschool and young school-aged children, providing fluoride varnish applications, sealant placement, and assisting. This position also provides education to parents of preschool-aged children. The role can be fast-paced with competing tasks, and involves participating in the delivery and evaluation of oral health services to the target population.
The Registered Dental Assistant is required to pack, lift, move, and transport heavy and/or awkward equipment and supplies to various work sites. As a Dental Assistant, you will receive and prepare patients for treatment, prepare instruments and materials, perform intra-oral procedures, and provide chair-side assistance. You will maintain the cleanliness of the dental area and perform routine maintenance. Additionally, you will provide oral health treatment and education to patients. Service delivery may require walking several blocks, climbing several flights of stairs, sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods, along with awkward and repetitive movements.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of a certificate from an accredited Dental Assisting Program and active or eligible registration with the College of Alberta Dental Assistants (CADA).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Active registration with CADA as a Registered Dental Assistant, with training in intra-oral procedures. Recent community health dental program experience and sealant application on young children are required. Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office, email, and Connect Care is preferred. Must demonstrate clear verbal and written communication skills, be self-directed, exercise independent professional judgment, and possess strong interpersonal skills. Experience in interdisciplinary teamwork, working with diverse populations, and understanding of health determinants and promotion are also required. Valid Heart & Stroke BLS Provider certification is necessary.
