Work Option: Hybrid
Flexible work options are available, subject to an approved telework agreement; Hybrid work is available for employees residing within the Vancouver, Coast and Mountains (VCM) region and enables employees to telework from their home up to 3 days a week with in office days on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The People and Development team provides human resources support through people-centered programs, recruitment services, policies, processes, and projects that align with Destination BC’s strategic priorities and those of the BC Public Service Agency. The team leads the design and delivery of organization-wide initiatives focused on attraction and retention, leadership and learning, succession planning, workforce development, employee engagement, health and safety, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.

Reporting to the Manager, People and Development, the Coordinator delivers general HR services to support Destination BC’s operations. This role actively contributes to team initiatives, supports special projects, and serves as a primary point of contact for employee inquiries related to HR.

The Coordinator provides technical and system support, including time and pay portal guidance, produces ad-hoc HR reports, and recommends improvements to People and Development policies, procedures, and programs. The role is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee data and HR files, requiring a high level of attention to detail and confidentiality.

As a key point of contact for employees, prospective candidates, and the BC Public Service Agency, the Coordinator builds strong, collaborative relationships and develops a solid understanding of human resource practices in a unionized environment, including the application of collective agreements.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Leads the coordination of full-cycle recruitment by updating job descriptions and postings, developing screening criteria and assessment tools, liaising with the BC Public Service Agency, communicating with applicants, scheduling interviews, and preparing offer letters. Maintains organized recruitment records and responds to hiring audit requests as needed.
  • Supports Destination BC’s new employee orientation program, acting as a key point of contact for new hires and providing guidance to hiring managers to help ensure a smooth and positive onboarding experience.
  • Supports People and Development projects by applying project management skills to coordinate activities, track deliverables, and ensure timelines are met.
  • Manages confidential employee data, and reporting, including organizational charts, leave records, and compliance with mandatory training requirements.
  • Develops and refines content for internal communications, to encourage employee engagement and ensure consistent, timely access to relevant information.
  • Stays current on HR best practices and relevant policies, including BC Public Service guidelines and collective agreements. Applies and shares this knowledge to support employees and managers across the organization.
  • Delivers timely and effective HR support, responding to employee inquiries, providing guidance on best practices, and connecting team members with appropriate resources.
  • Plans and coordinates employee engagement, including annual staff meetings, learning and development sessions, and staff recognition and appreciation activities. Manages logistics to promote participation and ensure smooth delivery.
  • Oversees financial administration for the People and Development team, including invoice processing, budget tracking, forecasting, and contract coordination.
  • Identifies and recommends improvements to People and Development practices and policies. Escalates issues to the Manager, People and Development as appropriate.
  • Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with employees across Destination BC and with partners at the BC Public Service Agency.

  • JOB REQUIREMENTS

    • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Minimum of twoyears’ experience coordinating recruitment services and processes.
    • Minimum of two years’ experience coordinating and implementing organizational programs or projects.
    • Experience interpreting and applying HR policies, procedures, and legislation to provide clear, practical, and consultative guidance on recruitment and employee-related matters.
    • Experience developing employee-facing content such as presentations, intranet articles, onboarding materials, and other internal communications.
    • Proven experience maintaining administrative and records management systems, processing invoices, tracking budgets, drafting contracts, and reviewing documentation with a high level of accuracy.
    • Experience organizing and coordinating employee-focused events such as staff meetings, training sessions, and engagement activities.
    • Proven ability to build strong, collaborative relationships and work effectively with colleagues, leaders, and external partners to support shared goals.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and coordinate projects using tools such as MS Teams, Asana, or similar platforms.

    Preference may be given to candidates with:

    • Demonstrated HR work experience within a public sector, and/or unionized work environment.
    • Applicants with a CPHR designation
