Job Title: Clinical Nursing Instructor

Course: NUSC 4F92 – Community Health Nursing ( 11 positions)

Department: Nursing

Term of Appointment: Contracts for this course are 1 2 weeks. Clinical days are Tuesday and Thursday.

Those who accept a NUSC 4F92 contract need to be available via phone or online during clinical hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

In addition to this, Clinical Nursing Instructors must be available for one 2-hour post-conference per week from 1600-1800 on either Tuesday or Thursday (TBD by Course Faculty) .

Clinical Nursing Instructors must be available for approximately 12 hours of in-person lab sessions throughout the term on either Tuesday or Thursday (TBD by Course Faculty).

Nominal Hours: 1 80

Wage Rate: $4 3.26-$49.95 per hour *

* The wage rate is determined by seniority as outlined in A rticle 16 and Appendix B of the CUPE 4207-Unit 4 collective agreement.

Duties :

Reporting to the Chair / Assistant Chair-Clinical , Department of Nursing, the Clinical Nursing Instructor is responsible to:

  • Prepare for and supervise students in a community setting for the experiential component of the course.

  • Collaborate with the course instructor to ensure student activities are aligned with the course syllabus and learning objectives .

  • Review the student’s preparation and plan for their clinical activities with attention and integration of community care plan and public health nursing concepts.

  • Encourage an inquiring, theory, and evidence-based approach to community nursing practice.

  • Model population -centered care .

  • Facilitate students in learning any health & safety requirements of the assigned community .

  • Provide ongoing verbal feedback to students and maintain a professional relationship with all learners.

  • Guide and supervise students in designing their population-focused assignments using the nursing process.

  • Mark students' assignments, including reflections and population-focused projects, providing constructive feedback and all assignments designated as the responsibility of the Clinical Nursing Instructor in the syllabus.

  • Facilitate in person simulation sessions for two days in the nursing lab.

  • Complete regular, comprehensive anecdotal notes regarding student progress and advise the course professor immediately of serious or ongoing student concerns.

  • Identify gaps and facilitate the development and implementation of student plans in partnership with the course instructor as required .

  • Facilitate student meetings / post-clinical conferences, and coordinate appropriate resources (e.g., multi-media) . Foster discussion and reflection to enhance a positive and respectful learning environment.

  • Adhere to confidentiality and privacy standards and legislation

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a BScN; Master’s degree preferred;

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario;

  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical work experience as a nurse ;

  • C linical work experience in Community Health nursing and/ or clinical teaching experience in Community Health nursing within the last 10 years ;

  • Desire to instruct and share knowledge with nursing students ;

  • Previous experience as a preceptor or with clinical instruction would be an asset ;

  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity , and inclusion ;

  • Ability to address concerns and manage difficult situations , and to identify and act upon emergency situations;

  • Effective organizational, time management, and communication skills ;

Note: Successful a pplicants are expected to supervise all scheduled/rescheduled clinical dates for the course they accept . This ensures consistency and improves the clinical experience for our students.
