We are seeking enthusiastic, registered veterinary technologists (RVTs) who would like to join our animal health team. The WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre has served as Western Canada’s only veterinary teaching hospital for over five decades. Our internationally-accredited center offers a wide range of primary and referral services to animal owners and veterinarians across western Canada.
Why work with us? We provide access to advanced technologies and equipment, a supportive work environment, opportunities for advancement and continuing education, a team-based approach to patient care and client services, and excellent health benefits.
As an ER/Triage Technician, you will triage all emergency patients upon arrival, ensuring the most critical are seen first. You will support intensive care/critical care, medicine, surgery, anesthesiology, and radiology to maintain optimal patient care 24/7. Hours may vary based on demand.
This role reports to the Manager, Operations, and involves a rotational shift schedule providing 24/7 care for emergency patients. Animal handling is a constant aspect, involving small and large animals, which exposes staff to animal dander, waste, and unpredictability. The job requires lifting, moving, cleaning, and working in an environment with potential unpleasant odors and traffic restrictions.
Education: Graduate of a recognized two-year veterinary technology program, registered or eligible for registration with SAVT, and a member or eligible for membership with SVMA. Preference for candidates pursuing AVECCT certification.
Experience: Minimum three years in client communication and veterinary hospital care.
Skills: Proficient technical skills, effective communication, ability to prioritize, work independently and in teams, organizational skills, and physical capacity to handle animals and equipment.
Applicants meeting CUPE 1975 Phase 5 qualifications will be prioritized; others demonstrating interest and potential for growth may be considered at a lower classification with training provided.
Position: Term up to 18 months, with potential for extension or permanence. Shift work includes days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule. Salary ranges from CAD $21.55 to $37.60 per hour, depending on classification and experience.
Verification of criminal record, education, and other checks as applicable. The university values diversity, inclusion, and Indigenous partnerships, encouraging qualified candidates to apply and offering accommodations for applicants with disabilities.
