Reporting to the Manager, Business Intelligence & Analytics, the Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for collecting and analyzing vast amounts of data to optimize business results and help build the next generation of analytics solutions. You’ll have the chance to partner with several business areas across a variety of regions enabling them to design, build, and deploy cutting-edge analytics solutions. As a core member of the Business Intelligence and Analytics team, you will also work with other IT peers focused on delivering data insights to our different business areas by applying leading-edge analytics approaches, data, and technology.

The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and optimizing scalable data pipelines and architectures across enterprise systems. This role enables advanced analytics and AI/ML solutions by ensuring the efficient flow of high-quality data. The Senior Data Engineer provides technical leadership to the data engineering team, ensuring alignment with best practices and business goals.

This position is based in one of our offices in Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Mississauga (Toronto), Vancouver, Ottawa, Regina, and Montreal.

What You Will Be Working On

• Develop end-to-end data pipelines using cloud and on-premises platforms

• Partner with business and IT leaders to design solutions that meet analytics and operational needs

• Build robust data ingestion and transformation processes from structured and unstructured sources

• Create and optimize data lakes, warehouses, and marts (e.g., Azure Synapse, Databricks, SQL Server)

• Develop and Maintain Scalable Data Infrastructure

• Lead implementation of data quality monitoring and alerting systems

• Develop scalable frameworks for metadata, lineage, and data cataloging

• Support deployment of predictive and machine learning models into production environments

• Collaborate with Data Scientists and Analysts to ensure timely, governed access to data

• Establish and promote best practices in data engineering and cloud architecture

• Mentor junior team members and contribute to team capability growth

• Contribute to enterprise data strategy and governance initiatives

What We Are Looking For

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

• 5 years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or analytics platform development

• Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, Spark, and cloud technologies (Azure preferred)

• Deep understanding of modern data architecture patterns (e.g., ELT/ETL, Lakehouse)

• Proven experience with tools like Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Delta Lake, Synapse, or Snowflake

• Experience integrating with APIs, flat files, ERP, and CRM platforms

• Familiarity with containerization and CI/CD (e.g., Docker, GitHub Actions, DevOps)

• Excellent troubleshooting, performance tuning, and automation skills

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence technical direction across teams

• Familiarity with data governance best practice

• Commitment to data security, quality, and compliance standards

• Skilled in visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI
