EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT

PERMANENT PART-TIME (Mornings)

Educational Assistants provide support to students to achieve success in academic, behavioral, social, life skills, and co-op situations. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, Educational Assistants contribute to the learning development and integration of all students by creating a safe and supportive environment.

Positions can be physically demanding, including assistance with toileting, diapering, feeding, lifting, transferring, positioning, and mobility as required. Educational Assistants may rotate through the school to meet the needs of students across multiple grade levels and groupings.

Required Qualifications For All Educational Assistant (EA) Positions

All positions require a relevant university degree or a two-year college diploma in the human services field (e.g., Behavioural Sciences related to ABA, Child and Youth Worker, Child Care Worker, Developmental Service Worker, Early Childhood Education, Educational Assistant – Special Needs Support, Human Services Administration, Registered Nurse, Sign Language Communicator, Sign Language Interpreter, Social Service Worker, or an Ontario Teaching Certificate). Most positions also require Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Special Details For This Position

BMS certification required. Position involves toileting and lifting. Experience working with students with ASD, behavior management techniques, assistive technology, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication knowledge are preferred. The role involves working with students in kindergarten, primary, junior, and intermediate levels within regular classroom settings and learning centers.

Note: The assignment will be half-days.
