An established national insurer is seeking an experienced and people-focused leader to join their Western Canada Personal Lines underwriting team. Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of Personal Lines underwriters across multiple locations in Alberta.
- Drive a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure underwriting practices align with risk appetite, profitability targets, and service standards.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve workflow efficiencies and support broader business initiatives.
- Monitor performance metrics and use data insights to enhance decision-making and operational outcomes.
- Participate in talent management activities including recruitment, performance reviews, and team development planning.
- Provide clear communication of underwriting direction, procedural updates, and team expectations.
- Occasional travel within Canada for team engagement and planning purposes.
Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of Personal Lines underwriting experience; exposure to specialty products is a bonus.
- Prior experience managing or coaching underwriting teams is required.
- Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and operational workflows.
- Post-secondary education and/or CIP designation (or working toward it) preferred.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to thrive in a hybrid work environment with both performance and service KPIs.
- Preference for candidates based in Calgary; strong candidates from Edmonton may be considered.
- Client is open to strong broker profiles.
