An established national insurer is seeking an experienced and people-focused leader to join their Western Canada Personal Lines underwriting team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a results-oriented professional who is passionate about underwriting excellence, coaching and developing talent, and delivering a top-tier broker experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of Personal Lines underwriters across multiple locations in Alberta.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure underwriting practices align with risk appetite, profitability targets, and service standards.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve workflow efficiencies and support broader business initiatives.
  • Monitor performance metrics and use data insights to enhance decision-making and operational outcomes.
  • Participate in talent management activities including recruitment, performance reviews, and team development planning.
  • Provide clear communication of underwriting direction, procedural updates, and team expectations.
  • Occasional travel within Canada for team engagement and planning purposes.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 7 years of Personal Lines underwriting experience; exposure to specialty products is a bonus.
  • Prior experience managing or coaching underwriting teams is required.
  • Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and operational workflows.
  • Post-secondary education and/or CIP designation (or working toward it) preferred.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a hybrid work environment with both performance and service KPIs.
  • Preference for candidates based in Calgary; strong candidates from Edmonton may be considered.
  • Client is open to strong broker profiles.
