Job description
Overview

We’re looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join Lightspeed’s Data Science Enablement team. The team builds tools, frameworks, and best practices to support production ML/AI solutions at Lightspeed. Example use case: collaboration with Lightspeed Capital to power lending products that help small and medium businesses access funds globally. Our ML models determine how much capital to offer each customer, making this role critical to enabling entrepreneurs everywhere.

You will be a hands-on technical leader building and scaling the MLOps platform that powers the model lifecycle from training to validation to deployment. You’ll collaborate closely with data scientists to move quickly and safely from experimentation to production. This role offers high autonomy, technical ownership, and direct business impact.

Note: As a global company with employees and clients outside of Quebec, fluency in English as a working language is required.

What you’ll be doing
  • Design and implement scalable ML infrastructure, including data and model pipelines.
  • Build and evolve the MLOps platform, enabling automation of the full ML lifecycle.
  • Integrate leading ML frameworks and tools into Lightspeed’s ecosystem.
  • Manage and optimize cloud-based ML workloads, ensuring performance and cost efficiency.
  • Partner with data scientists to streamline experimentation and deployment workflows.
  • Monitor, maintain, and optimize model performance in production.
  • Mentor teammates and promote best practices in ML engineering.
What we’re looking for
  • 5+ years of experience in ML engineering, data engineering, or related fields.
  • Hands-on experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-Learn.
  • Proficiency in Python (experience with Java is a plus).
  • Experience deploying and monitoring ML models in the cloud.
  • Solid knowledge of Kubernetes and CI/CD workflows for ML.
  • Strong understanding of data pipelines and ETL processes.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with a platform-first mindset.
Nice to have
  • Experience with MLOps practices and tools, specifically Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Vertex AI.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML model lifecycle management and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
Why you’ll love this role
  • Real-world impact: your work directly enables entrepreneurs around the globe to access the capital they need.
  • High autonomy: you’ll have the freedom to propose and deliver impactful solutions.
  • Global scale: Lightspeed products support users worldwide.
What’s in it for you
  • Join a growing team and help us move to the next level
  • Amazing benefits & perks, including equity for all Lightspeeders
  • Constant development of both your skill-set and business acumen with growth opportunities
  • Lots of autonomy, flexible work culture
  • Innovation time to explore and learn at work
  • Shaping the company by joining cultural & technical committees
  • Tons of growth opportunities into technical or people management roles
  • Opportunity to join a fast-paced, high-growth company
  • Opportunity to learn, expand your skill set, forge relationships and contribute to an inclusive Lightspeed family
