Qualifications

Who we're looking for:

Plan, manage and have ownership over the capacity and strategy of National Critical Facilities (headends and datacenters). Ensure space and power capacity is not exhausted in any of our critical Facilities. Furthermore, the Senior Design Engineer will be accountable to look at opportunities to reduce operational cost by means of site decommission or New Technology Introduction. The Senior Design Engineer will act as single point of contact in any concept discussion involving Facility expansions (include datacenters) for internal and external customers. The Senior Design Engineer will oversee the yearly capital planning process.

What you'll do
  • Provide support for new and expansion site design and construction.
  • Review and provide input to Engineering Preliminary Specification (EPS) and Engineering Design Specifications (EDS).
  • Manage Design and Construction Firms award to each project.
  • Audit and drive Jira ticket accuracy and completion.
  • Responsible for the capital planning process.
  • Develop CAs.
  • Support capital planning initiatives.
  • Develop and drive continuous process improvement within Facilities Planning and engineering.
  • Implement and coordinate the activation of the project with the entire Wire line organization and the contractor.
  • Manage the project by tracking the progress of the project and making the necessary corrections with respect to the timetable.
  • Make the daily decisions with the contractor and Headend Operations Team.
  • Develop scope of work and budget as per forecast. Initiate the project and develop project plans; these plans will identify all the elements of the project.
  • Develop construction documents and manage bids and award.
  • Develop a schedule and timelines for the project.
  • Implement the project and coordinate the activation of the project with the entire Engineering organization and the contractor.
  • Monitor and control all project activities. Track and manage issues and risks. Report project progress to management.
  • Participate in standards development and guidelines.
  • Manage vendor and equipment road maps along with end-of-life strategies / replacements.
  • Support peers and operational teams as required.
  • Drive standards development and guidelines.
  • Support and help train new team members.
What you bring
  • P. Eng. or OACETT certified or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 10 years of technical and Facility Project Construction Management experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of IP networks and protocols, routing, switching (OSPF, RIP, RIPV2, BGP, MPLS).
  • Have completed numerous Head End Expansion Projects as well as Power and HVAC Capacity upgrades.
  • Ability to take a leading role on complex engineering projects.
  • Considerable working experience in engineering technology, specifically in the principals of electrical, mechanical, civil, and structural.
  • Knowledge of various relevant legislation: Ontario Building Code, Fire Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Ability to evaluate, develop and design plans and criteria for a various engineering products and activities.
  • Previous experience with integrating new sites into company’s network.
  • Ability to develop requirements and design specification for existing applications.
  • Considerable working experience in reviewing project plans to meet company acceptable standards.
  • Ability to apply advance engineering knowledge in planning projects and coordinating difficult assignments.
  • Ability to manage complex projects requiring additional specialized knowledge.
  • Previous experience with assigning work in terms of objectives, relative priorities and critical areas that impinge on work of other units.
  • Previous experience with providing expert advice guided by general policies, department and/or customer.
  • Previous experience with making decisions and recommendations governed by general policies.
  • Basic knowledge of City standards and bylaws, Provincial and Federal legislation as they apply to water resources, water quality, and current environmental issues.
  • Demonstrated a positive attitude towards work safety.
  • Ability to use different computer software programs and can solve problems by creative and logical reasoning.
  • Ability to manage tendering process through Ivalua.
  • Ability to gather, interpret, and report engineering data in an accurate manner under strict timelines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact with a wide range of audience effectively.
