Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Program Manager, MedFlight, the Operations Manager, MedFlight Eastern/Island is responsible to manage staff and systems to meet the performance requirements of the Air Ambulance program and the Low Acuity flight program.
- Assist with the Company Corporate Strategic Goals, build staff capabilities, and implement changes to improve service levels.
- Direct and provide oversight for the workforce in a positive manner; supervise the overall operational status of the air ambulance program to meet or exceed customer/patient expectations.
- Communicate company philosophy and policy to ensure shared realization of goals in the operational area.
- Ensure customer/patient service is a priority and manage a customer/patient issue resolution process.
- Act as a liaison and build stakeholder relationships with indigenous groups serviced by the program.
- Understand air ambulance industry and business functions (EMS operations, fleet/facility management, HR, finance, inventory control, system status planning, quality improvement, training, education).
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the medevac program and low acuity air transport service.
- Exercise management over designated areas of authority; address employee and labour issues confidentially.
- Oversee and participate in recruitment and selection for air medical staff.
- Develop and coach staff; reinforce development with HR and other committees; orientate new employees to company goals.
- Encourage semi-autonomous work groups; lead or participate on committees; conduct effective group meetings including staff and labour relations.
- Promote employee performance through motivation; mediate conflicts between employees and with external factors.
- Develop and manage the operational area employee team; collaborate with staff to achieve organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in business administration would be an asset.
- Experience in the Healthcare field; be a registered nurse with the Nurses Association of Newfoundland and Labrador or a paramedic with the Paramedic Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (preferred).
- Minimum of five years' experience in the healthcare field.
- Minimum of three years in a progressively responsible leadership position.
- Able to complete a Flight Nurse/Paramedic Training Program, including flight physiology, flight safety, land and sea survival training, etc. (preferred).
- Proven experience in EMS management, information technology, finance, and human resources.
