Job summary

A regional health organization is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Dadzi Wellness Centre. The successful candidate will deliver trauma-informed, culturally safe care in a collaborative environment and must have a diploma in Practical Nursing and registration with the BCCNM. Emphasis on experience with First Nations settings and knowledge of cultural protocols is essential. This is a full-time role with a competitive salary and benefits, located onsite in Fort St. James, BC.

The Dadzi Wellness Centre is a groundbreaking, standalone First Nations primary care facility located in Fort St. James, in North-Central British Columbia. Serving the Dakelh members of the Nak’azdli Whut’en, Binche Whut’en, and Tl’azt’en Nations, our centre is ideally situated on Stuart Lake, close to the communities we support.

Under direction of the Clinical Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Primary Care will work in alignment with the Centre’s Governance model, which includes all Nations receiving services from the FNPCI, supporting each Primary Care Centre’s priorities and service model goals.

Title: Licensed Practical Nurse, Primary Care

Salary: $67,840 - $80,817 per year (pay range explained below)

Contract: This term position ending March 2027 with the FNHA has the possibility of extension. When the term position ends with the FNHA, it is intended that this position will be offered as a permanent role with the Dadzi Wellness Centre Primary Care Clinic.

Hours: 37.5 hours (core hours 9am-3pm Mon-Fri)

Location: Dadzi Wellness Centre, Fort St. James, BC, located on the ancestral territories of the Dak’elh Nations – Onsite

Bargaining Unit: PIPSC BCFNHA Group (Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada)

About The Role

The Dadzi Wellness Centre is envisioned to work as part of a strategic integrated system within a culturally safe model that integrates family, and community supports consistent with a no barriers to care model. The centre is enriched with the traditions and culture of the Dak’elh people in a warm and welcoming space, working in harmony with existing health services and with no barriers to care.

As Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Primary Care, you will be part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team delivering trauma-informed, culturally safe care to clients across all stages of life. You will help promote, maintain, and restore health in a respectful and collaborative environment. You will be expected to follow the standards set and work within the scope of practice set for LPNs in the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

About You

To be successful in this role you will have/be –

Education and Occupational Certifications

  • A recognized Diploma in Practical Nursing.
  • Current practicing registration as an LPN with the BCCNM.
  • Current certifications in CPR and Advanced Foot Care, or willingness to obtain.
  • Completion of an Advanced Nursing Foot Care training program is an asset.

Experience

  • Min. 2 years of recent and relevant experience delivering health services in a First Nations setting.
  • Experience in foot care is an asset.

Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and cultural safety and humility, with the ability to apply these approaches in diverse clinical settings.
  • Knowledge of First Nations cultures, principles, and protocols, including traditional healing practices and how cultural context influences health and communication.
  • Familiarity with trans-cultural nursing concepts and the health challenges faced by rural and remote communities.
  • Solid grasp of nursing theory, the nursing process, and professional standards, including relevant legislation and health system policies.
  • Awareness of health inequities, determinants of health, and the full spectrum of care—from health promotion, disease prevention, rehabilitation, and palliative and urgent care.
