Overview

At S+L Kitchen & Bar Langley, we pride ourselves on delivering an exceptional dining experience and creating a positive, dynamic atmosphere for our team. We are currently looking for a passionate and experienced Night Coach to join our culinary team. Candidates must be available for evening/closing shifts.

Summary

The Night Coach is responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations during the evening shift, in support of the Sous Chef (SC) and Head Chef (HC). You will have the autonomy to make key decisions that positively impact guest satisfaction, food quality, and kitchen efficiency. This role involves managing kitchen staff, ensuring cleanliness and profitability, and upholding high standards in alignment with the HC. You\'ll also assist the SC and HC with recruitment, training, and development across all kitchen positions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise a team of 5 or more kitchen staff during evening shifts, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and up to standard.
  • Ensure nightly routines and checklists are completed, and staff log out reports are submitted.
  • Assist the HC with recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training of kitchen staff.
  • Conduct monthly environmental audits as per JRG and local health protection standards, covering areas such as cooking lines, prep areas, storage, and more.
  • Help control food costs by reviewing portion control, minimizing waste, and conducting weekly inventory counts. Investigate any variances.
  • Track QSA\'s (Quality Service Audits) and provide follow-up training to ensure improvements are made.
  • Assist the HC with managing kitchen staff schedules, overtime, and labor targets.
  • Ensure high food quality and presentation standards are maintained in line with the organization\'s recipes and specifications.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of kitchen staff (5 or more).
Working Conditions
  • Hours and shifts may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work is performed in both the restaurant kitchen and office environments.

Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a kitchen leadership role, preferably in a high-volume setting.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Word and Excel, knowledge of Optimum considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety standards, and culinary techniques
  • Excellent communication and team-building skills.
  • Food Safe Level 1
  • First Aid Level 1, preferred but not mandatory
  • Must be available to work evenings and closing shifts!!
