About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Financial Analyst who owns the full financial reporting and regulatory compliance lifecycle, delivering accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, IFRS-compliant disclosures, Ministry and Board reporting, and audit-ready documentation, while acting as a technical accounting subject matter expert on complex and non-routine transactions. The role leads advanced accounting and variance analysis, including budget and forecast-to-actual reviews, and identifies system and ERP enhancement opportunities to strengthen financial operations and reporting capabilities. In close partnership with FP&A and business leaders, the role monitors financial performance to ensure consistent accounting treatment, high-quality management reporting, and decision-useful insights based on reliable actuals. The position also supports senior finance leadership on special finance initiatives, economic and industry analysis, financial policy updates, industry & public sector benchmarking, and Ministry-related financial obligations, including the preparation of financial updates and insights for Finance management and Board-level stakeholders.
About Your Day
- Deliver the full monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting cycle, ensuring compliance with IFRS, GAAP/non-GAAP requirements, public-sector legislation, directives, and regulatory obligations, including complete disclosures and audit-ready working papers.
- Prepare regulatory submissions, Ministry and internal reporting packages, incorporating variance analysis, performance metrics, decision-useful insights, and executive-level financial commentary.
- Act as a technical accounting and financial reporting expert, providing research, memos, impact analyses, and guidance on complex, non-routine transactions and related business process implementations.
- Maintain and enhance the general ledger and chart of accounts, including reconciliations, classifications, amortization schedules, journal entries, and structural optimization to protect financial data integrity.
- Perform advanced variance analysis, financial ratio analysis, and performance monitoring to support senior management decision-making.
- Partner closely with FP&A, business leaders, auditors, and senior leadership to align financial and corporate reporting, narratives, KPIs, issue resolution, and Board-level deliverables.
- Support the design, documentation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) to mitigate financial and operational risks.
- Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and ERP/system enhancements to strengthen reporting efficiency, accuracy, and controls.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial control procedures.
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors to support testing, remediation, and ongoing control improvements.
- Champion a continuous improvement mindset by streamlining workflows, approvals, and reporting processes across Finance.
- Act as a finance business partner and project resource on departmental and enterprise-wide initiatives, including cross-functional projects and IT enhancements.
- Enhance corporate and finance policy frameworks by identifying gaps, recommending updates, and aligning policies with legislation, directives, fiscal stewardship expectations, and business needs.
- Conduct economic, statistical, and industry analysis, monitoring macro- and microeconomic trends, provincial and federal budget impacts, and risks relevant to the Ontario cannabis marketplace.
- Develop and analyze economic drivers, KPIs, and industry benchmarks across licensed producers, retailers, wholesalers, and comparable public-sector GBEs to support forecasting, trend analysis, and decision-making.
- Prepare economic updates, benchmarking materials, and analytical presentations for senior management, the Finance Committee, the Board, and ad-hoc stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the FP&A CPM tools team to develop, standardize, and maintain dashboards, analytics, and reporting that enhance visibility and consistency across Finance.
- Strengthen finance governance and documentation, including SOPs, job aids, and reporting standards, while ensuring compliance with the Act, MoU, OPS policies, regulatory standards, and related legislation.
- Provide cross-departmental financial support, including inter-agency requests, audit inquiries, accounting treatment recommendations, continuous improvement initiatives, and support to Finance leadership and team members.
About You
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, commerce, or equivalent.
- 4+ years of relevant work experience in financial reporting, control environment, and financial analysis.
- Demonstrated experience with financial systems and data query tools.
- Experience from large public accounting firms auditing or reviewing companies of all sizes and public status type is preferred.
- 3+ years of relevant work experience in financial compliance and regulatory financial reporting is preferred.
- CPA designation or equivalent (CA, CGA, CMA, ACCA, CPA [US]).
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong business relationships.
- Superior communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Self-motivated, independent, comfortable in dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (i.e. Excel, Power-Point, Share-Point, Teams and One-Drive).
- Strong financial and analytical skills with the ability to prioritize effectively, accuracy and meet multiple deliverables with tight timelines.
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally with diverse teams.
- Strong understanding of IFRS.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI would be an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) is preferred.
- Proficient in data analytical/corporate performance management software is preferred.

Compensation
The target hiring range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000. This is a pay grade 6 role, with a salary range of $71,777.30- $107,379.81. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
