Overall objectives

• To lead and enable the effective execution of the enterprise-wide data governance strategy by driving adoption of data governance standards, facilitating business engagement, and ensuring alignment with regulatory and organizational requirements. The role will champion data ownership, stewardship, and quality practices across the bank to support trusted, high-quality data assets for business decision-making and regulatory compliance.
• The Principal Lead, Data Governance Enablement, will play a critical role in driving the adoption, embedding, and operationalization of the bank’s enterprise-wide Data Governance Framework. This role is responsible for enabling and empowering business and functional areas to take accountability for their data through structured ownership, stewardship, and data quality practices.
• The Principal data governance Lead will focus on translating the data governance strategy into actionable programs and processes, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations, organizational objectives, and industry best practices. Through strong engagement and influence, this role will foster a culture where data is recognized and treated as a critical business asset, driving value creation, regulatory compliance, and informed decision-making across the bank.
• Additionally, the Principal Lead will ensure the effective utilization of data governance tools, frameworks, and technologies transformation to enhance FAB’s data management capabilities and will serve as a key advisor and champion for elevating data governance maturity across all business units and international locations.
• driving compliance with regulatory expectations (e.g., CBUAE, NDMO, BCBS239, PDPL) and alignment with Group strategy.
• Transformation Enable AI-powered, cloud-aligned data & AI governance capabilities, Agentic AI through tools like Informatica (AXON, EDC, IDQ, CLAIRE GPT , data bricks Azure ) and any future emerging technology, supporting advanced data quality, metadata intelligence, and ethical AI oversight across the data lifecycle.
• Drive cross-functional business engagement and data culture transformation through structured data literacy programs, ownership frameworks, and Data Governance Committees

Role specific responsibilities

• Drive the execution of the data governance enablement agenda, ensuring alignment to the bank’s strategic objectives and regulatory expectations.
• Lead engagement with business and functional data owners and stewards to embed ownership, stewardship, and accountability for data assets.
• Develop and maintain data governance playbooks, guidelines, and processes to support consistency and adherence across the bank.
• Support the Head of Data Governance in reporting governance performance, data quality metrics, and remediation progress to senior forums and regulators.
• Enable the effective use of data governance technologies and tools to operationalize data governance processes and controls.
• Champion continuous improvement initiatives to mature the bank’s data governance capabilities and foster a culture of data accountability. Evolve the enterprise data governance strategy by embedding adaptive frameworks that align with evolving regulatory mandates and future-proof the organization for AI-driven, real-time data ecosystems.
• Support the Head of Data Governance to operationalize AI-augmented data governance using next-gen tools to automate data lineage, classification, quality monitoring, and policy enforcement across hybrid cloud environments.
• Support the Head of Data Governance to embed data ownership and stewardship accountability into business processes by institutionalizing federated models, smart workflows, and intelligent dashboards, enabling business-led governance at scale across global and regional operations with frequent review and enhancement of policies and SOPs.
• Proactively mitigate data risks across the First Line of Defense by integrating automated risk assessments, control monitoring (via RCSA), and regulatory audit preparedness into data governance operations—aligning with predictive risk intelligence and real-time compliance models. Maintaining a high level of data quality score mandated by UAECB and AECB.
• Support the Head of Data Governance to advance the organization’s data governance literacy and digital fluency through tailored upskilling programs, business-aligned training, and AI-enabled knowledge assistants that support data-driven decision-making at all levels.

• Act as a subject matter expert on data governance best practices, standards, and emerging trends.
• Lead working groups focused on data quality, ownership, remediation, and regulatory compliance.
• Facilitate training and awareness programs to enhance data literacy and governance knowledge across the organization.
• Support regulatory engagements and audits related to data governance and data management.
• Identify and drive initiatives to improve data quality, completeness, and timeliness across key domains.
• Collaborate with Technology, Risk, Compliance, and Business stakeholders to ensure governance processes are integrated and effective.
• The function acts as a strategic enabler, embedding business-aligned data ownership, AI-augmented governance, and proactive risk oversight across all lines of business, technology platforms, and geographies. It ensures full compliance with evolving regulatory requirements, including UAE Central Bank directives, PDPL, GDPR, and other applicable regional and global standards.
• With a forward-looking vision, the role leads the integration of emerging technologies—such as Informatica CLAIRE GPT, Azure CoPilot, Databricks, and intelligent metadata catalogs, Agentic and future emerging AI technologies—to automate data quality controls, risk monitoring, and privacy enforcement. This paves the way for a cloud-native, AI-driven data governance operating model, built to scale across dynamic enterprise and regulatory landscapes.
• Criticality of this function also drives the enablement of FAB international locations by embedding consistent data governance, through harmonized metadata, federated stewardship, and intelligent policy enforcement, ensuring global consistency while supporting regional agility and innovation.
• Address UAECB & AECB RFI’s regulatory mandates maintaining high level of Data quality score assessed by regulators protecting FAB DQ regulatory reputation

• Strong expertise in enterprise data governance frameworks and operating models (e.g., DAMA, DCAM).
• Advanced knowledge of data management principles, data quality, metadata management, and regulatory data requirements (e.g., BCBS 239, GDPR, UAE CBUAE).
• Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills at senior leadership levels.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate governance policies into actionable programs.
• Proficiency with data governance tools (e.g., Informatica EDC, Axon, IDQ).
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
• Strategic Data Governance Leadership with Ability to define, implement, and scale data governance frameworks, policies, and operating models across FAB group.
• Business Engagement & Data Stewardship Enablement with Proven skill in driving business alignment through ownership and stewardship models, embedding data accountability across functions and geographies.
• Technology & Data Management Proficiency & Transformation Hands-on experience with data governance platforms (e.g., Informatica AXON, EDC, IDQ), MDM, metadata/catalog tools, and integration with AI/cloud environments (Azure, Databricks, Agentic AI CoPilot, etc.).
• Change Management & Transformation Delivery Ability to lead cross-functional change initiatives, drive data literacy, and manage large-scale transformation programs linked to digital, cloud, and AI strategies. Including Agentic AI and any future emerging technology
• Stakeholder Management & Executive Communication Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage with all Business, risk, compliance, technology, international CEO’s and business leadership
