Job summary

A recruitment service is seeking a qualified safety officer for a position in Rustenburg, South Africa. Job description
Main Duties
  • Implement and manage workshop safety systems in line with ISO 45001 and other relevant standards.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety inspections, and ensure control measures are in place.
  • Lead and deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and ongoing training for workshop and site staff.
  • Monitor daily workshop operations for compliance with health and safety legislation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date incident, inspection, and audit records.
  • Take responsibility for the ordering, stock control, and distribution of PPE for all workshop personnel.
  • Investigate accidents and near-misses, and oversee the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Work closely with workshop supervisors and project managers to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and internal safety requirements at all times.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Proven experience in a safety officer role, ideally within steel construction, fabrication, or heavy industry.
  • Sound knowledge of ISO 45001 and occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Certification in Health & Safety (NEBOSH, SAMTRAC, OSHA, or equivalent).
  • Experience in PPE management and procurement processes.
  • Strong communication, training, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to conduct thorough investigations and write clear safety reports.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to fostering a safety-first culture.
