Job summary

A manufacturing company in Cape Town is seeking a skilled Welding Operator responsible for operating welding machinery, ensuring quality standards, and maintaining safety compliance. The ideal candidate will have a Matric or N3 certificate and at least 1 year of relevant experience in MIG, TIG, and Laser welding. This role requires a dependable work ethic and the ability to work under pressure.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience or training in MIG, TIG, and Laser welding.
  • Experience in a factory environment is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Operate gas welding machines, including MIG, TIG, and Laser welders.
  • Meet production targets efficiently and report any issues affecting output.
  • Perform visual checks on all completed assemblies.

VACANCY: WELDING OPERATOR

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Welding Operator to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating welding machinery to meet production targets, maintain quality standards, and ensure a safe working environment.

Key Performance Areas
  • Meet production targets efficiently
  • Maintain high quality of work and adherence to tolerances
  • Demonstr numeracy and literacy competence
  • Ensure all safety standards and procedures are followed
Main Duties
Achievement of Production Requirements
  • Operate gas welding machines, including MIG, TIG, and Laser welders
  • Set up machines with correct gas, wire, and parameters according to Work Instructions
  • Inspect machines before production; report any defects to the Team Leader
  • Meet hourly production targets and report any issues affecting output
  • Monitor machine performance continuously
  • Maintain Route Cards with outputs and rejects
  • Clock on/off for jobs and report any machine problems promptly
Quality of Work
  • Perform visual checks on all completed assemblies
  • Ensure assemblies meet dimensional tolerances using the relevant measuring tools or gauges
  • Report any quality issues immediately to the Team Leader
  • Clean machines and work areas before and after each shift
Safety Compliance
  • Wear appropriate PPE at all times, including goggles, gloves, and welding apron
  • Report accidents immediately to the Team Leader, First Aider, or HAS Representative
  • Shut down machines when not in use and report any safety concerns promptly
Educational & Training Requirements
  • Matric Certificate or N3 Certificate
  • Minimum 1 year of experience or training in MIG, TIG, and Laser welding
Prior Knowledge & Experience
  • Experience in a factory environment is an advantage
  • Basic mechanical fitting ability
  • Experience working with steel, aluminized steel, and stainless steel
Core Competencies
  • Ability to lift items up to 25kg consistently
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and tolerances
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining quality output
  • Follow verbal and written instructions accurately
  • Maintain Route Cards and other relevant documentation
  • Dependable work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Proficiency in using verniers, tape measures, and gauges
