Human Resources Administrator – Astec Industries South Africa
Position Purpose
To manage all warehouse operations, ensuring effective inventory control, compliance with company standards, and alignment with production and distribution requirements. The role is responsible for driving efficiency, accuracy, and continuous improvement within warehousing, logistics, and materials management.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement best practice policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and techniques for all aspects of warehouse control to ensure strong inventory management across all locations.
- Oversee all warehouse staff, providing leadership, coaching, and development.
- Act as liaison between departments (Planning, Shipping, Assembly, Manufacturing, and others), providing strategic oversight and reporting on issues, inconsistencies, and trends.
- Manage inventory accuracy and investigate inventory variances, providing insights into process gaps and corrective actions.
- Ensure timely communication of operational issues to management.
- Oversee the activities and performance of the Inventory Control and Cycle Count teams.
- Lead preparation for and participation in physical inventories, including reconciliation processes and the management of third‑party inventory service providers.
- Manage all warehouse functions including receiving, put‑away, storage, picking, packing, and dispatch.
- Identify and implement process improvements using Lean principles.
- Present operational insights to cross‑functional teams and influence process improvements.
- Establish, measure, and monitor Warehouse KPIs and SLAs.
- Collaborate with other departments to improve inventory accuracy, efficiency, and productivity.
- Ensure effective communication between warehouse teams and the Head of Supply Chain.
- Ensure compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) standards.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Warehousing and Materials Management strategy.
- Manage the logistics function, ensuring all dispatched items and equipment comply with regulations and packaging specifications.
- Proactively identify and mitigate operational risks.
- Work closely with the Sales team to ensure that parts and shipments are completed accurately and on time.
- Identify shortages in production or sales items and liaise with the Strategic Purchasing Manager to ensure timely delivery.
- Conduct resource planning for after‑hours, weekend, and public holiday operations to meet business requirements.
- Develop and maintain warehouse SOPs and policies.
- Create and manage a Skills Matrix for warehouse and logistics employees to support succession planning and skills development.
- Oversee Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) stock management to ensure visibility, control, and data accuracy within the ERP system.
- Enforce compliance with work‑to‑do lists for all equipment being manufactured.
- Serve as the link between Operations, Warehousing, Logistics, and Purchasing teams.
- Provide regular reports on warehouse performance, cost control, and service levels.
- Collaborate with IT and Supply Chain teams to ensure data integrity and ERP system integration.
- Lead the implementation of a new Warehouse Management System (WMS), including planning, vendor engagement, go‑live, and post‑implementation support.
- Manage, coach, and develop warehouse supervisors, team leaders, and staff.
- Assume full accountability for all supply chain functions—including Procurement, Logistics, and Inventory Management—when the Head of Supply Chain is unavailable.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Warehouse Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience
Minimum of 5 years' experience in inventory control or warehouse management within a manufacturing environment.
