Technical Manager position available in Stellenbosch.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Neighbourhood Maintenance & Infrastructure
    • Initiate, supervise and complete all physical maintenance activities in the Neighbourhood.
    • Set up and manage a structured maintenance programme for all common areas and facilities.
    • Maintain Neighbourhood infrastructure including electrical systems, fencing, irrigation systems, piping, welding repairs and general building maintenance.
    • Ensure buildings, facilities and common areas are maintained to a high standard.
    • Inspect work performed by contractors and sign off prior to payment processing.
  • Landscaping & Aesthetics
    • Oversee and actively participate in gardening and landscaping functions.
    • Demonstrate passion and creative flair for plants and landscape enhancement.
    • Develop seasonal landscaping plans (feeding, replanting, new installations, etc.) and improvement initiatives.
    • Supervise irrigation systems and water reticulation infrastructure.
    • Conduct regular inspections to maintain high aesthetic standards.
  • Wet-Waste compost facility:
    • We strive to be the first “NO WASTE TO LANDFILL” neighbourhood in South Africa by December 2028. Part of this strategy is the harvesting of wet waste from the neighbourhood’s residents (each home and apartment) which will be used in the compost facility together with all other brown and green garden waste.
    • The Technical Manager will oversee the collection of the wet waste and will draw up a weekly pick-up schedule throughout the Neighbourhood.
    • The Technical Manager will furthermore be responsible for the production of the compost and distributing it to the public gardens and parks within the Neighbourhood.
    • In summary, this position is responsible for the wet waste facility from harvesting plant material, production and redistribution into the gardens.
  • Staff Supervision & Planning
    • Allocate daily tasks to maintenance and gardening staff.
    • Develop weekly and monthly maintenance schedules.
    • Monitor staff performance and productivity.
    • Ensure adherence to health and safety standards.
  • Budget & Cost Control
    • Obtain quotations for maintenance works (preferably three where required).
    • Make recommendations to Trustees regarding cost-saving opportunities.
    • Track expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Compliance & Emergency Response
    • Identify and respond proactively to maintenance risks and potential failures.
    • Act as first response coordination point during emergencies such as burst pipes, fire or electrical faults.
    • Ensure Neighbourhood assets are properly maintained and recorded.
    • Support compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Community Engagement
    • Maintain a visible, approachable presence on site.
    • Foster a strong sense of community and pride in the Neighbourhood.
    • Work collaboratively with Trustees and Management.

Requirements:

  • National Senior Certificate (Tertiary Qualification Beneficial)
