About The Role
Title: Technical IT Project Manager
Location: Cape Town - South Africa
As a Technical Project Manager you will plan, coordinate and deliver complex security and cloud projects for Ekco customers, ensuring delivery to time, budget and quality with effective handover to Ekco Service Operations.
Responsibilities And Duties
To be considered you must have worked as a Technical Project Manager in an IT environment for a minimum of 5‑7 years and hold an industry‑recognised Project Management certification (e.g., Prince2 Practitioner). The role requires a technical background and the ability to govern projects, align solutions to security best practices, act as the primary liaison between technical teams, stakeholders and customers, and manage multiple projects concurrently under pressure.
Day To Day Activities Of The Role
- Provide comprehensive project plans with scope, roles, responsibilities, risk assessment, budgets and timescales.
- Analyse, refine and translate business requirements into project requirements.
- Analyse business operations to identify automation opportunities.
- Manage and liaise with third‑parties as needed for project delivery.
- Communicate project status, activities, changes, issues and progress to stakeholders and third‑parties.
- Produce clear, timely documentation (Contracts, SOW, etc.) for internal and external use.
- Identify, capture and manage project risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies.
- Manage project change, capturing scope/schedule/budget changes, defining impact and updating plans and resources.
- Ensure key milestones are met on time and within budget.
- Monitor, track, forecast and report project status to the PMO and senior stakeholders.
- Provide structured project management, communications guidance and assistance to team members.
- Ensure project work meets quality standards and compliance with PMO governance, financial tracking and cost control.
Essential Skills / Experience
- 5‑7 years as a Technical Project Manager in an IT environment.
- Prince2 Practitioner or equivalent Project Management certification.
- Full driving licence and willingness to travel to Ekco and client sites.
- Experience in fast‑paced environments.
- Ability to solve problems independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable adapting to changing priorities.
- Successful delivery of multiple technical projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication of complex technical topics.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including MS Project.
- Strong stakeholder management, including executive‑level engagement.
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of Microsoft cloud platforms (Azure, EM+S, O365).
- Knowledge of technical solutions (MS Defender, Windows Server, VMWare & Veeam).
- Knowledge of the IT industry and managed services.
- Familiarity with security technologies (SIEM, firewalls, IAM, endpoint protection).
Bonus Points If You Have Experience With
- ITIL Service Transition or Service Operations.
- Technologies such as SharePoint, Active Directory, Messaging, Virtualisation, Networking.
