Job Description

We are offering a compelling opportunity for a Snr Specialist IM Data Management within our Information Management (IM) team. In this role you will need to apply your knowledge and experience of data management (master data management, data governance, metadata, data quality, data privacy, Data retention & archiving and reference data management etc.) to ensure Valterra manages data as a valuable asset to better deliver information and insights to improve organisational performance and meet regulatory requirements.

Your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Act as the single point of accountability for Data Management across the organisation. Own, lead, establish and manage the roadmap of Data Management initiatives to be rolled out and the continuous evolution of the capabilities from foundational, to progressive and aspirational.
  • Adopt a holistic view when recommending solutions, leveraging leading practices to align data management solutions
  • Develop and enforce data governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Governance, Geology, Engineering, Metallurgy, Processing, Mine Planning, Finance, Supply Chain, People & Organisation, and ESG to align data management strategies with operational goals.
  • Risk & Change Management: Proactively identify risks, dependencies, and challenges across the portfolio, implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting: Provide executive-level reporting on project status, portfolio health, and strategic alignment to key stakeholders.
  • Collaboration with Business & IT Teams: Work closely with Enterprise Architects, IT leaders, and Business Unit Heads to ensure successful project execution.
  • Continuous Improvement & Lessons Learned: Establish a culture of process improvement, innovation, and lessons learned from project implementations.
  • Technology & Vendor Management: Engage with vendors and technology providers to ensure projects leverage the right tools, solutions, and best practices.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Alignment: Ensure that all IM projects adhere to compliance, governance, and regulatory requirements.

This role is in the Analytics & Insights department at a Band 6/12 level reporting to the Manager IM Analytics & Insight.

Qualifications
  • Grade 12
  • An undergraduate qualification (bachelor’s degree/Diploma or equivalent) in relevant IM Discipline
  • Master’s degree in IT Strategy, Business, or Digital Transformation, will be an added advantage
  • Qualifications in data management practices such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) will be an added advantage
  • Certification in Data Management and Data Governance Technology: Unity Catalogue, Microsoft Purview, Profisee, Informatica, Collibra, Atlan, Attacama, Talend, Alation, SAP MDG
  • Valid EB/Code 08 driver’s licence
Experience required

5-9 Years of experience in:

  • Data management, data modelling, data architecture, data governance, master data management, meta data management, Data retention & archiving, Information security and wider data analytics experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working across multiple functional projects to understand data usage and implications for data management.
  • Demonstrated ability with assisting businesses in deriving value from data.
  • Leading and managing a data management function which has implemented data management and data governance across an organisation.
  • Familiarity with mining industry-specific technology stacks and their digital transformation roadmaps.
  • Experience in applying Data Management processes, standards, governance, structures and solutions in hybrid environments (on-prem and Cloud).

You will also need to have:

  • No criminal record
  • If successful, you will be required to undergo a Medical Fitness Certification.
