Job summary

A leading mining company in Hotazel, South Africa, seeks a Shaft Engineer to manage surface infrastructure and coordinate maintenance activities. This role requires effective planning and resource management to achieve production targets within budget. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years as a Main Vertical Shaft Engineer and extensive experience in underground mining. Qualifications include a BTech/BEng/BSc in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and a GCC in Mines and Works.

Qualifications

  • 3 years minimum as a Main Vertical Shaft Engineer is required.
  • 10 to 15 years of post GCC experience in an underground mine with TMM is necessary.

  • Manage and control maintenance costs to ensure budget adherence.

Job description

Manage and co-ordinate the maintenance of the Surface Infrastructure and Fixed Plant (SchneiderControl Double drum Winder, Main Vertical Fans, Conveyor belts and Crushers, Compressors, Diesel Emergency Generators, Compressors, Batch Plant, and all relevant Engineering functions / activities to ensure optimum availability at the lowest cost according to operational requirements. Manage day to day activities at the shaft, including contractors working in area of responsibility. The incumbent will be appointed as a 2.13.3.1/2.13.1 MHSA legal appointee

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for the planning and organising of resources to obtain production targets.
  • Plan and coordinate major shutdowns with internal and external clients to ensure the timeous allocation of resources.
  • Co-ordinate day to day maintenance plan with operation team to ensure safety, reliability and availability of equipment is with in an acceptable time.
  • Co-ordinate the design of new equipment and ensure integration with the application of existing technology and resources.
  • Review maintenance strategy to align with OPEX and CAPEX Budget plan as per Asset management plan.
  • Assist Engineering Manager on preparing DMR Files and filling the MD1 and MD208 Forms.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analyses on primary equipment breakdowns.
  • Manage and control maintenance costs to ensure budget plan not exceeded
  • Responsible for risk evaluation and alleviation within design of systems, equipment, and products (Technical and Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ).
  • Responsible for the execution of discipline design (systems, equipment and products) through to documentation and data pack management.
  • Assist and support engineering team during breakdown fault finding
  • Responsible as a Regulation 2.13.3.1 legal appointee for shafts, ventilation fans, compressors and surface infrastructure, all underground infrastructure (Mechanical & Electrical) and TMM (Trackless mobile Machinery) as well as project execution in area of responsibility.
  • Ensure compliance to statutory requirements and Mine Policies, Procedures and Codes of Practice.
  • Ensure that all Engineering reporting is aligned with standards, guidelines, and schedules.
  • Lead on project execution to eliminated delays.

Qualifications

  • National Senior Certificate (Matric)
  • BTech/ BEng/ BSc Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Postgraduate qualification would be advantageous
  • GCC Mines and Works

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years as a Main Vertical Shaft Engineer
  • Minimum of 10 to 15 years post GCC experience in an underground mine with TMM
