Job description

About the Role:

To provide comprehensive individual financial advice support to Alexforbes with the aim of ensuring compliance with applicable law, individual tax, exchange control (“excon”), investment and financial advice requirements for retail clients, resolving legal issues, minimizing the risk of non-compliance with tax and excon requirements and ensuring businesses goals are met.

Requirements:

Education:

• Essential: 3 year Law degree/diploma (LLB/BProc)
• Essential: CFP
• Preferred: Postgraduate legal diploma/degree/qualification in tax and membership of FISA preferable

• Minimum 8 years work experience in a Legal role within Financial Services

Key Responsibilities:

• Responsible for advising the retail business, including internal and external financial advisors on relevant legislation relating to services and products provided by, or approved by, Alexforbes
• Understanding and applying relevant tax and excon requirements in the provision of advice, on retail financial planning matters
• Specific focus on legal technical advice to financial advisors in respect of individual retail clients
• Providing holistic tax and excon input to Alexforbes in respect of the retail products and services provided by Alexforbes
• Keep abreast of tax and excon requirements relevant to Alexforbes’ retail products and services and provide insight and training to financial advisors
• The incumbent will be responsible for providing specialist tax support to the retail business units of Alexforbes as follows:
• Advanced knowledge and experience of tax legislation, including Income Tax Act, Estate Duty Act and related fiduciary and family matters legislation, SARB, FATCA and SARS guidance notes and procedures
• Good knowledge of legislation pertaining to financial services, such as insurance, investments, pension funds and fiduciary-related laws
• Good knowledge of regulatory framework of institutional and retail financial services products and services
• Responding to tax and excon queries
• Researching complex tax matters and giving input into retail business projects
• Lobbying and giving input to internal stakeholders on new tax legislation
• Active industry body participation, where applicable
• Review, analyse and provide advice and training on draft and final tax law changes
• Provide legal, tax and technical advisory support to retail advisory businesses, administration teams and product teams.
