About the Role

Our client, a rapidly expanding global Insurtech insurance company, is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel, Africa to take a leading role in commercial agreements, regulatory compliance, and legal risk management across the African region, with a primary focus on South Africa and Kenya. This is a fully remote position offering the opportunity to work with multicultural teams across EMEA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, interpret, and apply African insurance laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Lead the identification, assessment, and mitigation of legal risks across the region.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including insurance distribution agreements, partnership agreements, and service contracts.
  • Deliver pragmatic, business‑aligned legal advice in a fast‑paced, agile environment.
  • Promote and embed a strong compliance culture across the organisation.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on African insurance regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance risks are monitored, assessed, and effectively managed.
  • Support the Director : Legal & Compliance EMEA with advice, oversight, escalation, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Collaborate with regional and group legal teams to mitigate legal and compliance risks.
