Overview
The Division of Environmental Health in the School of Public Health is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer to participate in postgraduate teaching, supervision, and research activities. This is a 3.5-year contract position, and the level of the appointment will be commensurate with experience and qualifications for Senior Lecturer. The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is between Rands 795 970 and Rands 1 147 460.
The Senior Lecturer will teach on the Division of Environmental Health’s teaching programs, supervise students’ projects, participate in and initiate research activities within the Division and socially responsive activities within the Division of Environmental Health and the School of Public Health.

Requirements
- A PhD, preferably held for 2-3 years, in Public Health or an equivalent discipline with demonstrated training in one of the following fields: environmental health, environmental epidemiology, environmental sociology, environmental science, environmental chemistry or another relevant field
- At least 3 years of experience in postgraduate student supervision and mentoring, and successful graduation of masters and possibly PhD students
- Evidence of a high standard of teaching (e.g. awards, student evaluations) including setting assessments
- Evidence of consistent research outputs through peer-reviewed publications, particularly in the field of pesticides or chemicals, at least 10 in the past five years, at least two as leading author and one in an international journal
- Evidence of a research track record, including the ability to attract research funds for own research and postgraduate students and regular conference participation

Responsibilities
- Complete tasks assigned by line manager linked to the job description for this post and contributing to Division, School, Faculty and University management and administration when asked.
- Convene a Masters in Chemical Risk Management online programme.
- Participation in the teaching of postgraduate courses – including convening courses, facilitating sessions, reviewing, updating and compiling relevant reading materials; developing materials where appropriate; setting, preparing marking criteria and marking assignments; setting, and preparing marking criteria and marking examinations.
- Supervising students’ research projects.
- Active participation in existing research projects, entailing, for example, literature review, methodological development, data collection and analysis activities.
- Engage in the development of new research activities (e.g. securing funding) within the Divisional portfolio, and lead research teams.
- Identify new teaching and learning opportunities such as teaching and developing short courses.
