Job title: Senior HSE Officer

Job Location: Gauteng, Johannesburg

What you will enjoy doing

The job holder will be responsible for driving HSE compliance at plant level and overseeing the Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management System activities at ALPLA Lanseria. The Senior HSE Officer is accountable for identifying hazards, reducing risks, and preventing accidents. In addition, the job holder will monitor key safety performance indicators, including LTIs (Lost Time Injuries), total recordable incident rates, and near-misses.

Key duties and responsibilities
  • Responsible The incumbent will be expected to undertake regular occupational health, safety and environment compliance site assessments, inspection, and audits within a legislative framework.
  • Schedule & attend HSE meetings to monitor compliance and corrective actions.
  • Facilitate risk assessments and major incidents investigations and determine mitigation measures needed for HSE interventions.
  • Make recommendations on relevant training and awareness campaigns to support Health and Safety.
  • Write up safe work procedures and performance reports and engage with operations around the implementation of recommendations, identify occupational health and safety interventions to address compliance shortcomings, analyses quarterly self-assessment reports and recommend required intervention.
  • Promote health and safety through competency checks, health and safety programmes and training
  • Maintain and ensure the implementation and effectiveness of the environmental management system ISO 14001, and take the necessary actions to keep the system running effectively.
  • Follow‑up the control of wastes, emissions, hazards, and other aspects in accordance with legal and other requirements and ensure the implementation of the corrective actions and report the non‑conformities to management.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualification in related field advantageous.
  • SAMTRAC Certified.
  • 5 years' experience in the same or related field
