Job description

We're looking for a dynamic Financial Manager to take ownership of financial reporting, planning, and operations for a growing boutique consulting firm. This pivotal role reports directly to the Managing Director and plays a key part in driving financial strategy, ensuring compliance, and supporting the firm's growth trajectory. You'll work cross-functionally with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure financial integrity and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Reporting & Management:

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes in line with IFRS and internal policies.
• Prepare accurate management accounts, board packs, and variance analysis with clear commentary.
• Oversee the preparation of statutory financials and manage the external audit process.
• Monitor working capital, cash flow, and liquidity to ensure financial health.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis:

• Drive the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts.
• Provide meaningful financial insights to support business strategy and operational decisions.
• Track performance against budgets and recommend corrective actions as needed.

Compliance & Risk:

• Ensure compliance with SARS, CIPC, and all regulatory requirements.
• Oversee company tax including VAT, income tax, and provisional tax calculations.
• Implement strong internal controls and financial risk management frameworks.

Team Leadership:

• Lead and develop a small but capable finance team.
• Review the work of bookkeepers, creditors/debtors clerks, and junior accountants.
• Identify training opportunities and promote continuous development.

Strategic & Operational Support:

• Support investment and advisory work through financial models and scenario analysis.
• Partner with project and investment teams to evaluate financial viability and returns.
• Oversee procurement, vendor payments, and contract reviews from a finance perspective.

Systems & Process Optimization:

• Enhance financial systems and reporting tools, championing automation where possible.
• Promote best practices in financial governance, accuracy, and data integrity.

Requirements:

• Qualifications: BCom Accounting or equivalent (essential); CA(SA).
• Experience: 7+ years in a financial management role; experience in consulting, infrastructure, or financial services is advantageous; exposure to multi-entity environments and project-based accounting is highly beneficial.
• Skills & Attributes: Deep knowledge of IFRS and South African tax legislation; proficiency in Excel and financial systems (e.g., Xero and FreshBooks); analytical, commercially savvy, detail-oriented; strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
