Purpose of the Job
- The Lead Data Analyst position is a pivotal role within the data analytics team, responsible for conducting advanced data analysis, driving strategic insights, and providing leadership to junior analysts.
- This hybrid role requires a blend of technical expertise, business acumen, and strong leadership skills to effectively analyse complex datasets, develop actionable recommendations, and guide the analytics team in delivering impactful solutions.
- Reporting to the Head of Data Analytics, the incumbent will play a key role in shaping the organisation's data-driven decision-making processes and driving business growth through actionable insights.
Job Objectives
Data Analysis and Modelling:
- Perform in-depth data analysis using advanced statistical techniques, machine learning algorithms, and predictive modelling to uncover actionable insights.
- Develop and implement data models, algorithms, and visualisations to support strategic decision-making and business optimisation.
- Utilise data visualisation tools to create intuitive dashboards and reports that effectively communicate insights to stakeholders.
Strategic Insights and Recommendations
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand key objectives and challenges and translate business requirements into analytical solutions.
- Provide strategic insights and actionable recommendations based on data analysis to drive business growth, improve operational efficiency, and enhance customer experience.
- Identify trends, patterns, and opportunities within the data to support data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
Leadership and Mentorship
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior analysts, guiding them in performing data analysis, interpreting results, and developing analytical solutions.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture, promoting knowledge sharing, best practices, and continuous learning among team members.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in data analytics, providing guidance and expertise to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Project Management and Execution
- Lead and contribute to cross-functional analytics projects, including defining project scope, objectives, and deliverables, and managing project timelines and resources.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritise analytics initiatives and ensure alignment with organisational goals and objectives.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks and issues, and implement corrective actions to ensure successful project execution and timely delivery of results.
Data Governance and Quality Assurance
- Monitor and where required enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and security of data assets.
- Conduct data quality assessments and audits to identify and resolve data discrepancies, inconsistencies, and errors.
- Implement best practices for data management, documentation, and metadata management to support data integrity and compliance requirements.
Team Leadership and Development
- Lead the analytics team in achieving strategic objectives, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities to junior analysts, empowering them to grow their skills and expertise.
- Set performance goals and objectives for the analytics team, monitor progress, and provide regular feedback and performance evaluations.
Strategic Planning and Decision-Making
- Collaborate with senior leadership to define strategic priorities, identify opportunities for leveraging data analytics, and drive organisational change through data-driven insights.
- Participate in strategic planning sessions, providing input and recommendations based on data analysis and market trends to support informed decision-making at the executive level.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, presenting findings, insights, and recommendations in a clear, concise, and compelling manner.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field. (Master's degree preferred for Lead Data Analyst)
Experience
- 6 years of experience in data analysis, with progressively increasing responsibilities and leadership roles.
- Proficiency in data manipulation, analysis, and visualisation tools such as SQL, Python, R, Tableau, or Power BI.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to derive actionable insights from complex datasets.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven leadership and mentorship abilities, with experience in guiding and developing high-performing analytics teams.
- Experience in project management, strategic planning, and decision-making in a data-driven environment.
