About the job: Senior Bookkeeper
Location: Sandton, Johannesburg
Salary: R35k - R45k/month
Reporting To: Chief Financial Officer
Our client in the Aviation Sector is seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Bookkeeper who, guided by their direct manager, is responsible for all aspects of financial management. The role involves ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures, building the capacity of the company's finance team by overseeing daily operations, and preparing, computing, managing, researching, and analyzing all accounting data to provide insights on performance, financial position, and cash flows. Responsibilities include corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and developing internal control policies.
Requirements:
- Preference for a Degree or Senior Certificate/Diploma in Accounting
- Proficiency in Sage Evolution
- Solid experience as a senior bookkeeper/accountant
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Own transportation
- Excellent accounting software skills
- Ability to work independently and strategically
- Strong communication skills
- Advanced troubleshooting and multi-tasking skills
- Proficiency in English and MS Office
- Customer service orientation and negotiation skills

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Management:
- Manage all accounting operations from transactional level to reporting
- Ensure monthly account finalization up to Trial Balance and analyze expenses and GL accounts
- Reconcile accounts payable and receivable age analysis
- Reconcile stock monthly to the General Ledger
- Process stock adjustments or write-offs as per DOA
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations
- Monitor expenses against budget and explain variances
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes
- Ensure accuracy of financial transactions and reporting
- Maintain confidentiality and security of information
- Stay updated with financial policies, regulations, and legislation
- Liaise with auditors during audits
- Assist with financial and systems projects
- Prepare and submit VAT reconciliations and follow up on SARS VAT audits
- Ensure statutory compliance
- Produce timely balance sheet reconciliations including bank, debtors, creditors, and inter-company accounts
- Reconcile inter-company accounts monthly
- Implement and adhere to finance policies and procedures
- Manage ad hoc requirements for related companies
- Funds Management:
- Forecast cash flow positions monthly
- Mitigate financial risks related to cash resources
- Budgeting:
- Develop annual budgets with operational management
- Report variances and reasons post-review from CFO
- Financial Analysis:
- Conduct cost reduction analyses
- Create additional reports as requested
