Job summary

A leading metal recycling company in Cape Town is seeking a dedicated Scale Buyer. The role involves inspecting, sorting, and weighing scrap metals, ensuring compliance with legal regulations. Candidates should have a minimum qualification of Grade 12, proficiency in MS Word and Excel, and strong communication skills. This position requires the ability to work independently as well as in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect scrap metal for purchasing and display for photographing.

  • Accurately weigh customers' metals for purchase.

Job description

The Montague Gardens Branch requires a committed, hardworking and trustworthy Scale Buyer to join their team.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensure that you thoroughly inspect scrap metal to be purchased and display same openly for photographing
  • Ensure that the requirements of the Second‑hand Goods Act are complied with when buying by accurately recording all information required under the Act
  • Ensure that captured information and photographs is correct
  • Sorting and grading of ferrous and non‑ferrous material
  • Accurately weigh customers metals for purchase
  • Identifying stolen and inferior material and report same to management immediately
  • Accurately updating customer information
  • Ensure metal purchased is secured immediately after purchased and not re‑purchased
Applicants must have the following qualifying criteria:
  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Computer proficiency: packages required: MS Word, Excel
  • Good numeracy skills
  • Able to liaise professionally with customers, suppliers & colleagues
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work quickly and under pressure
  • An excellent knowledge of ferrous and non‑ferrous metals
  • Reside in surrounding areas will be advantageous
