Aon South Africa is recruiting a Retirement and Risk Benefits Consultant in the Employee Benefits department, based at our offices in Sandton. The role is to efficiently and effectively manage a portfolio of funds/schemes in accordance with SLA requirements and to provide guidance, support and advice that adds value to all role players within the relationship.

What the day will look like
Meetings
  • Lead client interactions in accordance with the pre‑established year plan.
  • Liaise with the Operations Manager to finalise agenda packs for distribution to clients one week prior to Board/Manco meetings (or per SLA).
  • Prepare all communication and information requirements (agendas, minutes, reports) for client meetings.
  • Assist with the annual market review of existing benefit offerings and/or applicable rates.
  • Provide administrative support to the team, including updating and maintaining accurate records and files, entering data into relevant systems, assisting with producing documents and collating information.
  • Adhere rigorously to agreed SLAs with clients.
  • Cooperate and work with colleagues and other partners to ensure tasks are completed on time.
  • Lead and control service provider interactions during client meetings.
  • Lead feedback and recommendations at all Committee and Board meetings.
  • Provide draft minutes within two weeks from Board/Manco meetings for circulation to Board/Manco for final input.
  • Lead action items with assistance from the Operations Manager.
  • Finalize and implement action items identified.
Relationships
  • Interact on a regular basis with clients either in person or telephonically to establish relationships and handle Fund/Benefit activities.
  • Supervise and run interactions with Service Providers as the client representative.
  • Execute processes in accordance with prescribed timelines.
Portfolio
  • Keep documentary evidence of all tasks/instructions relevant to client activities (ROA).
  • Implement monthly and quarterly performance reviews with the Operations Manager.
  • Advise and keep clients up to date with all industry developments and legislative changes.
  • Monitor the rate review process, present and discuss outcomes with the client, and make final recommendations for implementation.
  • Assist clients in member education and communication strategies.
Finances
  • Prepare and table monthly reports on invoices issued and pending.
  • Implement strategies to collect income within negotiated timelines.
  • Handle overall portfolio expenses and consulting remuneration levels.
  • Supervise and handle personal expenses within determined timelines.
New Business
  • Identify and lead new business opportunities within the existing portfolio.
  • Identify cross‑selling opportunities within the portfolio and EB, and introduce the relevant parties within Aon.
  • Develop professional expertise in order to articulate solutions to clients.
  • Apply company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.
  • Possess an awareness of larger team/department strategies and customer needs.
  • Work with all Aon Solution lines & Divisions to ensure high quality, efficient and compliant delivery of all client servicing/administrative/transactional activities.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
Qualifications
  • Be in possession of Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Must be registered as a representative with the FSCA in terms of the FAIS Act.
  • Have or work towards achieving a NQF level 8/9 qualification in wealth management or any other industry‑applicable qualification at the same level.
Knowledge
  • Has a broad knowledge of Aon generally and a deeper knowledge within the sector/territory.
  • Individual with knowledge of the principles and practices within a technical/professional discipline.
  • Able to analyse data and convey the findings in a constructive and objective manner to assist the client.
Skills and Attributes
  • Be computer literate with advanced experience in MS Word and Excel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Good interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Ability to empower and develop reporting staff to a level where they would be capable to fulfil the same role and expectations.
  • Be dependable and respect confidentiality.
  • Have a high work ethic and must have the ability to function effectively under pressure.
  • Be a team player, have the ability to build good relationships, support and actively participate in, and contribute to any team initiatives.
Experience
  • Typically possess business experience, with intermediate knowledge of the functional area.
  • Possesses advanced analytical, technical and problem‑solving skills and abilities.
  • Have a minimum of 8 change to years’ experience in a similar or related role.
