Job summary

A prominent retail business based in South Africa is seeking an exceptional Cost Accountant to manage all aspects of costing administration. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cost and management accounting, with 3-5 years of experience. You should be proficient in Microsoft Excel and familiar with ERP systems. Outstanding interpersonal skills and fluency in Afrikaans and English are essential. This role involves product costing, inventory reporting, and collaborating across teams to ensure accuracy in financial records.

Job description

Babylonstoren is looking for an exceptional Cost Accountant who is personable, detail-orientated, and dedicated to managing all aspects of our Retail business' costing administration.

Requirements:
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in cost and management accounting, including analysis and reporting.
  • A BCom degree or equivalent is preferred, and progress towards a CIMA qualification would be advantageous.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with experience in ERP systems and BOM. Familiarity with business intelligence software would be beneficial.
  • Experience in a Retail, FMCG or E-commerce environment is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and departments.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • High level of accuracy and a meticulous work ethic.
  • Fluent in Afrikaans and English.
Responsibilities:
  • Product costing and tooling inventory reporting and maintenance - compare actual costs with estimates and analyse any variances.
  • Prepare cost estimates/quotes for new products and product changes.
  • Update BOMs as necessary.
  • Assist with stock counts.
  • Load cost estimates/quotes into relevant systems.
  • Assist with reconciliations/schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records for old and new product costings.
  • Manage inventory and product records.
  • Provide audit information on a continuous basis.
