Resident Engineer • Randburg, South Africa

Overview

Hire Resolve’s client is urgently seeking the expertise of a Resident Engineer in Randburg, GP.

Responsibilities
  • Observe how the works are carried out, examine and test materials and workmanship, and receive from the contractor such information as he shall reasonably require.
  • Deliver to the contractor oral or written communications from the Engineer and receive oral or written communications from the contractor to deliver to the Engineer.
  • Inspect works for conformity to contract documentation.
  • Witness and review all tests and mock ups carried out both on and off site.
  • Arrange for the delivery of all test certificates.
  • Ensure compliance with the requirements of the plans and specifications and review completed work prior to enclosure or on completion as appropriate.
  • Constantly review work procedures and construction materials.
  • Be available to provide the contractor with technical interpretation of the plans and specifications.
  • Verification of quantities for payment certificates.
  • Attend regular site progress and technical meetings.
  • Prepare pro‑active estimates of proposed variations for Client and Engineer decision making.
  • Assist in the resolution of contractual and financial claims by the contractor.
Requirements
  • Minimum B-Tech Civil / Structural Engineering.
  • Membership to a related professional body (preferably Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng registered).
  • Minimum 10 years site experience on a full‑time basis working on commercial buildings, would be an advantage.
  • Fully conversant with MS Office packages.
  • Excellent record keeping and Quality Assurance (QA) experience.
  • Well organised, with strong planning and management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and report‑writing skills.
  • Proven project management, client liaison and consulting skills.
