About the role – Registered Nurse with the Greater Newcastle Mental Health Service Community Intake Team
As a Registered Nurse with the Greater Newcastle Mental Health Service Community Intake Team you will play a pivotal role in ensuring safe, effective and timely care across a high‑demand mental health service. You’ll guide consumers with compassion and clarity, helping them navigate towards the most appropriate person‑centred treatment pathways. At the heart of this role is connection – linking the humans we care for with the exceptional humans we work alongside.
Key responsibilities include:
- Work within an experienced mental health multidisciplinary team delivering assessment, treatment and referral for consumers accessing the Greater Newcastle Mental Health Service
- Receive dedicated orientation and structured development in mental health care team processes and specialised interventions
- Be supported in morning huddles, daily multidisciplinary team reviews and afternoon handover meetings
- Build your confidence in delivering dynamic person‑centred trauma‑informed care
- Build upon skills in therapeutic engagement, risk assessment and recovery planning
- Participate in clinical supervision and mentoring tailored to your learning needs
- Enjoy working in both offices close to the beach city centres and public transport

The Greater Newcastle Mental Health Service (GNMHS) provides intake triage, assessment, consultation, acute care, community care, coordination and rehabilitation to consumers and their families. Requirements
- Registered Nurse with current authority to practice with AHPRA
- Eligible to drive in NSW and willing to travel for work
- Demonstrated previous experience in Mental Health Nursing or a strong interest and eagerness to learn and broaden skills in this area
