Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer

Rhodes University – Department of Secondary and Post‑School Education – Makhanda, Eastern Cape – Permanent post.

Overview

The Department invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team. Preference will be given to applicants who meet the criteria for the post at the level of Associate Professor.

Main Objectives

All academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research), community engagement and professional involvement beyond the university. Academics are expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level.

Professors and Associate Professors are to provide academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, professional involvement and community engagement, and contribute towards the institution's governance.

Job Requirements – Associate Professor
  • PhD in Science Education is required.
  • Experience teaching Science Education and at least one other STEM discipline (preferably ICT/EdTech) is required.
  • Extensive teaching experience at post‑school level is required; school level experience is an advantage.
  • Research supervision experience of Science Education Masters and PhD degrees (to completion) is required; supervision of ICT in Education or other Technology Education is an advantage.
  • A national and emerging international profile in Science Education is required; integrated STEM focus is an advantage.
  • A track record of appropriate administration, management and/or leadership roles is required.
Job Requirements – Senior Lecturer
  • PhD in Science Education is required.
  • Experience teaching Science Education and at least one other STEM discipline (preferably ICT/EdTech) is required.
  • Teaching experience at post‑school level is required; school level experience is an advantage.
