Job Description

As Project Coordinator, you will be part of a two‑person team in MVC’s Money in Politics work stream. The successful incumbent will play a key role in shaping MVC’s research and campaigns as South Africa enters a new phase of its democracy and in the lead‑up to the crucial 2026 local government elections. You’ll help advance MVC’s vision by coordinating research, accessing political financing information, driving campaign strategies, and supporting our regional Community of Practice.

Roles and Responsibilities

Strategic Coordination

  • Help shape campaign strategies with the Project Lead.
  • Ensure activities align with MVC’s broader political finance transparency goals.

Campaigns & Advocacy

  • Coordinate MVC’s secretariat role in a regional Money in Politics Community of Practice across Africa.
  • Run small‑scale Access to Information (ATI) campaigns to secure political finance data.
  • Coordinate initiatives that push for better financial disclosure by political parties and private donors.
  • Support planning, rollout, monitoring, and reporting of advocacy campaigns.

Research & Data Work

  • Conduct desk research on political finance, transparency, and democratic governance.
  • Analyze data from ATI requests and disclosures from the IEC.
  • Support larger research projects led by the Project Lead.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with civil society groups, government bodies, and regional partners.
  • Organize meetings, workshops, and webinars for local and regional initiatives.
  • Ensure consistent communication and collaboration across stakeholders.

Communications

  • Draft reports, newsletters, statements, and opinion pieces.
  • Serve as MVC’s spokesperson when required.
  • Help develop messaging for campaigns and advocacy moments.
Qualifications And Requirements
  • Postgraduate degree in Law, Political Science, Public Policy, International Relations, or a related field.
  • Proven commitment to democracy and social justice.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in campaigning, research, advocacy, or project coordination (preferably in the social justice sector).
  • Experience working on regional projects in Africa is an advantage.
  • Strong research, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a small team.
